Rewiring cost.

Hi, I've been given a quote of £2,400 for a full rewire for a small 3 bedoomed property this covers 18 sockets, the main light in each room and bonding and fusebox.
He then told me, that the replastering would be £300 extra and the retiling again extra but didnt say how much as I said I'd tile it.
This is all without vat and that would be added on top at 20%.
Would you say it was fair? I would have thought that the plastering and tiling would have been included in the cost.

Most of the cost of a re-wire is in the labour. So location will play a big part in how much it will cost.
I'm guessing there are maybe 8 lights in the house. So that is 18 sockets, 8 lights, and the new fusebox. Say the fusebox is £400. That leaves £2k for the rest, that is about £75 per item. Seems a bit high to me. We were paying about £50 per socket / light in Surrey.
I would say get yourself some additional quotes.
Also - few other points -
I would ask them if they or someone else does the plastering and tiling. Personally I would ot want an electrician doing the plastering or tiling. I would want a plasterer and a tiller. So if it is them doing it, I would source the plasterer and tiller seperately.
Be sure to ask and get in writing that all the work done will be to the required standards and that they will submit all necesary building control notifications (probably via their trade body).
Maybe try to find a 1 man band. You may well find they have kept themselves under the VAT threshold and there is not VAT to pay.
And lastly - maybe pay a small deposit, but don't pay the bulk of the money till the work is done. And I would even suggest holding back a small amount - say 10% until you receive the certificates.0 -
I'm going to get about 5 quotes and then think about it all. Thanks for your response.0

Get your original (and subsequent) quotes itemised so that you can compare like for like.
