What should I do about my elderly Multipla?

  • I paid £2k for her around 4 years ago

Sounds like you've had your money's worth then. Ask the MOT tester what the general condition of the car is in their opinion with regards to corrosion etc. If they reckon it's near enough OK, pay for the clutch to be done and drive it for another couple of years. It doesn't owe you anything really.
  • Not sure if yours is the 1.6 petrol or 1.9 diesel. Having had a look on the Eurocarparts website, the petrol clutch kit is £85 and the diesel is £95. Both made by LUK so a decent brand. Not sure how much labour would be. At a guess maybe 6 hours? A backstreet garage would charge maybe £40 an hour so you'd be looking at around £350 all in?

Check your breakdown cover covers pre-existing faults first.

And how are they gonna find out it has been rattling months before the car broke down?
    Answer: they're not.
Plus, the fault may not even pre-date policy inception. It's a breakdown cover policy, not a warranty so they'll just recover the breakdown and move on to the next job so lets not over complicate it was irrelevant stuff

Hi, it's a 1.6, my garage said it would take them 4 hours but they charge more than £40 I think.

Anyway, she failed the MOT on a wishbone and emissions. Peeves me slightly as she only had a new exhaust a few months ago. Apparently there's a leak that they're going to cover.

Mechanic said £40 for wishbone and 2 hrs labour. Then, obviously cost of MOT.

I told him to go ahead.

Hopefully the clutch will last a few months until I move.
I must remember that "Money Saving" is not buying heavily discounted items that I do not need. :hello:

Sounds like a plan, and remember with the back seats out of the way, the Multipla will be handy for removals too.
