Slow Wireless speed

When I use my laptop to access Ancestry.co.uk wirelessly in my sitting room it take an age to load the pages. this does not happen with other websites at this location.

If I contact the same site at my other laptop in my study which is connected next to the hub and is wired it goes much faster like a rocket.

Why is this and how do do I correct it?

If its just one website then you cannot fix it. Its their problem.

Google website speed checkers. The google one is quite good, Tells you how long a page takes to load.

Also gives tips on howto improve its speed. Lots of tips for this forum... Maybe the developers should try it also....

Try connecting the slow pc via the wire in the study to rule out wireless issues.

It is odd it is only Ancestry that loads slowly all other site ok the wired computer has no problem.

The thing is the wired computer is in a cold room and the sitting room is warmer to sit in.

Thank I have just tried this - plugging the normally wireless computer into the wired connection and the pages of Ancestry still loading slowly.

As I said all other sites load ok.

This is very odd - any suggestions?

Why do you think that is relevant? If anything, the colder location would make electrons move faster, but the difference over such a small (relative) temperature range is minuscule.

No it's not relative to the computers it is just I want to use the computer in the warmer room to be more comfortable.

So what it has now come down to is that Ancestry is slower on one computer than the other.

You need to confirm that other sites on the slow computer are OK.

    Things to try...

Clearing browser cache. Better yet use CCleaner and remove all unwanted crap.
    Using a different browser.

If that all fails then try wearing a fleece. :)

Brilliant bod. I know exactly why you went down this route of thinking, rather than just 'they'd be cold in the other room'.

I now understand why my family think I'm a geek. :rotfl:

    Thank you for your post.

I have now successfully got on the site using IE9 with the normal speed I get on the other computer.

I was previously using Firefox (the same as the other computer) what should I look at in Firefox to speed up - I have cleared the cache?
