One thing to watch for in modern sets is viewing angle. We recently viewed a number of sets at John Lewis Home and found that the viewing area of modern LED sets was quite narrow - OK if you sit right in front of the screen, but useless for us. Also, because the new screens are so thin, there's little room for decent speakers so the sound is not so clever.
We already had a 37" Panasonic plasma so opted for a 50" Panasonic plasma second hand off Ebay for £270 - and do not regret it! Full HD (but only Freeview SD built in), Freesat HD, cracking picture.0
