Beaver / Scouting gang show

Hi,

I'm a Beaver leader looking for ideas for a Beaver act at our gang show in about 10 weeks time.

Last time we did Super Hero which seemed to go down very well.

All ideas / suggestions greatly received.

Karen.

I have no idea of the kind of thing that you're looking for - there weren't Beavers in my day, and the only thing I remember about the Gang Show is "We're riding along on the crest of a wave and the sun is in the sky ...."

    Strictly / X Factor / The Voice?

A popular film (Paddington?) (I remember we did Chimchiminee from Mary Poppins!)

    Some sort of Diversity thing?

DS did a gang show in the summer which involved beavers, cubs, scouts and rainbows, brownies and guides too - their pack did the old standards, they sang "there's a hole in my bucket" with their two leaders.

They also did a sketch called "japucha" (or something like that) which will be a bit long winded to explain but they were all in a circle and one of the much older scouts was in the middle and they had to ask him if it was time for "japucha" and then he said something like "oh great gods of the mountains, is it time for "japucha"?" and would answer "no" so they would go around in the circle making "red indian" noises, before asking again, etc.... They did this about five times, then when they were finally told "yes, it was time for japucha" they launched into the hokey cokey. It sounds rubbish the way I've told it but it brought the house down because it wasn't what we were expecting and the boys were so funny.

In fairness the whole thing was hilarious, so bad it was good - DS's cub leader was the MC and he should be on the stage full time he's brilliant. The other cub pack did "singing in the rain" and DS's leader was walking around the audience with a super soaker spraying everyone!

And it looks like we made it once again
Yes it looks like we made it to the end

Musical films either older (Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Mary Poppins, Oliver!) Or cartoons (any disney really, Frozen being very popular at the moment).

Roald Dahl, Space, Wild West, Panto?

We don't tend to have an overarching theme to our shows. Rather we do lots of little sketches from films/musicals and songs.

    Is there nothing on OSM?
At the lat gang show I went to, I was saddened to see that there was no performance of "We're riding along on a crest of a wave".
Have you looked at youtube? Obviously it will have to be pretty simple for the Beavers to do.
    Have fun :)

How long do you have for the 'Beaver bit'? Theme it.
We do about 10 mins of theme related songs. One year they were zoo keepers and sang about 'We're all working at the zoo tomorrow', we'll be measuring the snakes tomorrow, washing elephants etc with exaggerated movement.
One year they did songs about weather and ended up throwing buckets of confetti water at the audience.
One year they did songs about London dressed as tramps.

Thanks very much for your replies they've been very useful.

I've had a good search on Youtube and OSM.

Yes the routine has to be simple and straightforward but have seen some excellent routines though they would probably be slightly too risque for the Beavers.

It looks like we'll be doing The Blues Brothers - so hopefully it'll be a simple 3 minute routine.

    Thanks again for your help.

I had a vague memory of Ralph Reader's material not being used if it's not an 'authorised' gang show, and I've found this from a show I was once in:
1994 was a landmark year for SHOWTIME as national Gang Show recognition was sought and granted giving Woolwich the right to reclaim it’s Gang Show title and the right to once again wear the scarlet necker emblazoned simply with GS Woolwich.

So it could be fashion, or it could be something else ...
