Measuring for new carpet

I'm waiting for an appointment with someone to measure up though think I have found carpet online & feel a bit guilty about getting someone else to measure! Essentially our room is 8m long & 6.5m wide & most traffic will be along the 8m so it seems to make sense to buy 5m wide carpet & have the join along the length (rather than buying two lots of 4m wide carpet 6.5m long each which would result in us buying 52m2). But we were advised by someone to have a series of joins along the rest of the room to be most economical. I think he suggested just one join but I wonder if it's possible to have two so we'd buy 11m x 5m wide (55m2).



Is there a good reason not to do this? The alternative (with one join) is to buy 12 metres so 60m2 in total.

Any advice welcome - we are choosing a hessian backed carpet to help with the joining. The only other thing I've thought is that with the 60m2 we should have enough left to carpet two more rooms as we'd have two pieces of 3.5m x 4m each approx.
