flooring for the whole house

Options
Hi all,
I'm new here so forgive me if this is the wrong place.

I am in desperate need of flooring in my house, I have a kitchen at 19 x 11 ft and I'm not sure what would be cheaper laminate or vinyl? Also underlay and labour of someone to fit, also needing hall stairs landing and living room floor down but might have to wait for them as I will be knocking my bathroom and toilet into 1 at some point this year and wouldn't want to ruin a new floor. So how cheap could it be for my kitchen? Including underlay, floor and labour? I have had 2 quotes, one for £570 and one for £490, I think this is far too expensive for just one room, a big room yes but still, anyway, any advice on cheapest floor would be much appreciated. :)

Thanks! :)

There are a huge amount of coverings. You can have cheap cheap laminate or vinyl, or solid wood.

£25ish per sq m on the cheap side, and that's fitting yourself.
  • I am also a newbie but I have worked with wood and vinyl floor coverings for more than 20 years so maybe I can help you..the choice of flooring should be considered on its usage ie do you have pets or risk of water lying on the floor for a prolonged time. If the answer is yes then I would recommend that you choose a vinyl as it will cope better with water and surface scratching and pet mishaps!
Vinyl is fully stuck to the subfloor which must be flat and level. To be honest, the quotes you have received seem reasonable to me. Do they include for subfloor preparation? In most cases, you should find that a basic vinyl floor will be much cheaper than a laminate. I hope this information helps you.
