I took my parents to Bath on a very hot July day when it was PACKED with tourists. Anywhere else would have been hell in these circumstances. Bath was still lovely!0

Living in Leicestershire and being originally from Newcastle I would suggest that if you only want to drive a couple of hours, don't go to Newcastle
OH refuses to drive me anymore since some nutter rammed us off the road travelling up there about six years ago. Some stretches of the A1 are like wacky races!
Never been to Bath but would probably second Bristol. OH and I went up to Southport for our hols this year but went to Liverpool for the day- it took us about three hours to drive there in utterly disgusting weather..*The RK and FF fan club* #Family*Don’t Be Bitter- Glitter!* #LotsOfLove ‘Darling you’re my blood, you have my heartbeat’ Dad 20.02.200 -
I wonder what time of year this trip will happen?
Of the suggestions you make Bath wins hands down for me. The City is such a quirky mix of old and new. There is the old town, the canal, the history, the towns' proximity to other interesting places such as Bristol and surrounding towns, villages and countryside. Manchester? No,,a dump.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0 -

Well York is nice too but i would again draw you back to Bath !his b'day is 29th july, so planning on going the weekend after. 1st, 2nd and 3rd.
i think i've decided on york, but i'm still drawn to bath.
It has just about all that York has and more.
Summer in Bath,,true it will be busy,,lots of tourists, mostly oriental,,all part of the attraction. Lots to see and do in the busy city then off somewhere a little quieter perhaps in the surrounding country or in the old town for a nice meal ?
How will you be travelling?
Bath has fab park and ride facilities for drivers..especially good if your staying out of the city a little.
I guess youve had a good read on the bath tripadvisor forums?
York is fine but Bath is better
