Saw this at the cheese counter at supermarket this morning. Unfortunately it was totally unopened, and the cheese, besides being wrapped was in a container, so couldn't see what it was like. I was a bit pressed for time, and I'm by no means fluent with the language here (Cyprus).
Have googled it, and it seems to be a version of Gorgonzola from Lombardy, but can't seem to find out too much info. Thought Caterina especially might be able to help.
I'm actually looking for a soft blue cheese, like Cambazola, which I have never managed to get here. I can get Stilton and Danish Blue and a couple of other hard blue cheeses, but the softer ones seem to be non existent. This is probably going to be another hard cheese too, but if I don't ask, I'll never know.

It's described as Gorgonzola picante - try Google imaging it, looks rather yummy - but although looks soft-ish, not as squishy as Cambazola! :j:D:beer::eek::A:p:rotfl::cool::):(:T0

I got cambzola in Tesco half price last week - from the deli counter. Worth a look?2021 GC £1365.71/ £24000

Thank you so much Jfdi, never thought to look at images....what a pillock I am.
Yes, agree with you, in some of the pics, it looks a bit squidgier than Gorgonzola, but not quite Cambazola squidgy! :rotfl:
I shall get some next time and try it out.
In the meantime, if anyone knows of any other really squidgy blue cheeses, please let me know, and will keep an eye out for them.0 -

Am so jealous....but it would cost me a huge air fare.
Seriously, there are loads of things that I can't get and it doesn't bother me, but just sometimes, I get a craving. Today I paid around £5.50 for 1 kilo of porridge oats! I did baulk at the price, but been out of it for a while now, and need it for a loaf that I make, and can also make oatcakes, which is another thing that I can't buy. The craving took over any sense in my head.
We don't have Tesco in Cyprus, but we do have Lidl in the south side, which is brill.0 -
Bontazola and Cambonzola cheeses do not exist in Italy, or at least not as traditional blue cheese, it is possible that some companies have trademarked the names I suppose, but you get Gorgonzola dolce (mild, soft) and Gorgonzola piccante (drier, much stronger). You can also get Torta di Gorgonzola which is a layered cheese, blue and creamy mild, sometimes also with Mascarpone.
Ah, and you can get Dolcelatte which is a super mild version, but still blue.
End of Gorgonzola lecture, hope it helps! Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -

WOW!!!! Am in shock!2021 GC £1365.71/ £24000 -
Well, finally did buy some Bontazola, and very nice it was too, however absolutely nothing like Cambazola, softer than Stilton, tastes a bit more like Danish Blue though. I would buy again, but prefer Stilton or Gorgonzola if I can get it.
Thanks Caterina for your very informative post, much appreciated. Thought that I had replied earlier, so a bit embarrassed.
BrassicWoman...I was in shock too, but buying imported goods, which I rarely do, is very expensive. Just recently heard of a local rolled oats, so will be on the lookout for that.
I did look at a 1kg bag of stuffed cheese jalapeno poppers the other day, and nearly collapsed. Worked out at around £14. I didn't bother, and will make my own version, as I normally do....was just tempted for a second or two, to be lazy. :rotfl:0 -
They have some super Gorgonzola in Aldi. I bought some at Christmas and was delighted to see it there again last week so it's not a seasonal special. It's in the Specially Selected range. They have the picante (not tried that myself) and also a mild, creamy one which is very similar to Dolcelatte.0

Thanks Maman, unfortunately don't have an Aldi in Cyprus, we do have Lidl's though in the south. Will certainly check out when back in UK in a few months.0

Alphamega supermarkets in the south of Cyprus stock a lot to Tesco own brands although they are more expensive than the UK.0
