Just was curious if anyone has had it done by professionals before? I recently paid £150 to have my 3 bed town house done which was on the high end I know that but no one else could fit me in by the new year, I have had a closer look and its so crap, the guy has told me he can't do around the edges as there are air gaps with the skirting board?? It isnt even decent in the middle of the room, they say they cant get everything but even bits of fluff and sand which i assume was sucked up from deep down hasnt been sucked up properly its like i will need to now vaccum it?Guy is just full of it but was curious if anynone has heard anything remotely close to this, the company is registered with the national carpet cleaners association so I have contacted them and sent pictures, was hoping to post pictures on here but isn't letting me, not sure if you have to be a long serving member to post photos?

We had our carpet professionally cleaned when we moved out of a rental house a few months ago and it didn't look as impressively clean as I expected. I felt I had better results on our previous property using one of those self-hire carpet machines.0

Im not how you would go on proving it is "not as clean" as you would have "expected" which would be difficult to contract for - but photos before and after would certainly help your case
We have a deep-pile cream carpet in the lounge and I would like to freshen it up to look like new - I seen a shopping channel ad for this bissel cleaner which looked amazing in the ad which included removing crayon, soot and grease paint, wine, etc although i understand those tests could be quite contrived - but they also offered a 30 day money back guarantee if it didn't perform as well as they say - saleswoman even said "thats long enough for you to clean every carpet in your house and send it back" - not sure how pleased her sponsors would be with her saying that but it did look like a confident buy - cant remember the shopping channel but Amazon have the same cleaner

Im a carpet cleaner and in answer to your questions, pre-vac is the most important part of the process as 75% of dirt is dry soil so if you say there is sand this means pre vac wasn't thorough enough. As for the edges he is partly right, draught marks are caused by air flowing through skirting boards. They can be removed but take time and more often than not return. Good mechanical agitation after pre-spraying is important to get the pre spray deep into the fibres, then a good rinse to remove dirty soils. Not knowing what equipment he used its hard to say. If you have complained to the NCCA they will investigate it, did the cleaner not walk you around before you paid him?
BTW I would have been a lot more expensive then £150.00 if every room was carpeted.0 -

Don't waste your money, get a recommendation for a good local carpet cleaner.0 -
Firstly a thank you to Schwamm66 for the initial post. Schwamm has now been in contact with the Head Office of the NCCA and has received advice from our technical department regarding the quality of carpet clean that was received. The cleaning company involved is not a member of the National Carpet Cleaners Association although they have been promoting themselves as members. The local Trading Standards have been informed and the Association will also be taking action against the company for breaches of Intellectual Property misuse which is against the law. The NCCA is the only Trade Association ( non profit making) for carpet and upholstery cleaners which ensures that members are fully trained, fully insured, have to comply with a Code of Ethics and can be held to account by the Association where we provide independent arbitration when a dispute arises.
Sound advice for anyone using ANY tradesman who claim to be accredited by a National body is to check on that bodies website that they are who they say they are. Most Associations issue a membership number so check that number against the firm that you are intending to employ. If you cannot find a company registered ( when they claim they are) please please please contact the Association directly or your local Trading Standards because you are the eyes and ears to help eradicate Rogue Traders from scamming ordinary hard working people who put their trust in wishing to employ an expert.
As a Director of the National Carpet Cleaners Association I hope this post is useful, but always double check the credentials of who you are seeking to employ. Caveat Emptor is the watchword0 -

I need some tips on how to remove vinyl silk from a red carpet0

We had carpets professionaly cleaned after a flood in the bathroom leaked through to the lounge stairs and landing. To be honest it looked worse than me using my own carpet cleaner. The insurer agreed and had it redone, still looked awful and was replaced by the insurers.0
