Safari Error code

Using Apple I pad, when trying to open Safari I get an pop up stating unable to open due to IOS problem and telling me to ring technical support on 0800 411 8004

Any one else had this problem and have you rang the number.

I am a IT novice and not sure what to do next, I can still operate the I pad and use other browsers but not Safari .
Any help not too technical would be appreciated.

    Yes cleared all history.
Decided to phone 0800 number it was some call centre, never actually said who! After many questions was told it was as a result of "unwanted intrusion " by a number of websites, whatever that was meant to be?

Bottom line they wanted to charge to correct this at £64 for a year and £124 for 5 years to provide "security" against reoccurrence.

Obviously declined their help, went to settings and reset to original set up, closed down I pad and hey presto normal service was resumed.
As I said I am a novice to computer use age so I probably will never know. What it was all about.

It sounds really suspicious - what does the url/address bar show? And is there a screenshot?
