UPDATE - LL has confirmed he has spoken to the deposit scheme and asked them to release the full amount to us yesterday. Such a huge relief, I was expecting to have to spend this weekend gathering a load of evidence and fighting with him. I've actually been getting myself mentally prepared for it so it's quite a shock to the system! Once the money has cleared I can happily say I never have to deal with him again! *Phew*0

The LL has spoken with the deposit scheme? Which scheme? Did this chump actually protect your deposit?
Not that it really matters. You're getting your deposit back, you've found somewhere better to live, and you won't have to deal with this LL again.0 -

Hi
It was initially rented out with an Estate Agent who protected our deposit with MyDeposits when we moved in. Because the LL wanted to save money, he cut the Agent out after the 6 month check and managed it alone up until the last month when he instructed them again to do the final moving out checks and get the keys on his behalf. No idea why he didn't do it himself but I'm guessing after all we have put up with he realised it wouldn't have been the most pleasant of meetings, so passed the buck! I just hope he doesn't do his quick fixes and more tenants fall for it and end up going through what we did.0
