yes cheaper to get a licence on ebay than direct, this is how i do it as all you need is the key if you already have the software installed

I think that Ebay link IS just for an activation key. (But note it is only for TWO devices, not 3).

I've noticed a 3 device, 2 year offer, but I'm confused with the offers most seem to say "Activation key only"

Which means you download the software from Kapersky (if needed) then use the activation key you've bought when (re-)registering KIS.

Yes it you already have KIS installed then all you need to do is change the licence key. you can do this upto 14 days before expiry date and the remaining days will be added to new licence

i run Bitdefender Total Security 2014 and have 2015 in my cupboard when my current one is due for renewal. I also have Malwarebytes Pro -

The two do not conflict with each other as some other Security products do.
MWB will run in the background and scan for malware regularly, if anything is picked up it will tell you.
I did this after using AVG (Paid for) and having the worst malware attack in all the years I have been building and using computers. AVG picked up nothing.
If you want Bit defender, get it from Amazon as a disk:

It can be downloaded from BD's site, but costs more and you have to pay for a disc to be sent. (Needed for backup)
