Hi there,
I'm new in this forum, if this is not the correct section, apologies.
I have purchased "Used" and RARE Sony PS3 Console + Controller from an eBay seller for £142
When it was delivered the console did not work as the seller send me a lead that had one pin
missing on the plug, but send me next day new one, by the time the new lead arrived I only switched
the console on twice (using my monitor cable), first day, when it was delivered to me and I try to troubleshoot why it was not
working and then checking that the DVD/Blu-Ray drive works for few minutes and getting the controller working, second day
to test that it plays SACD, listen to one song and then power it off via the menu. When I switched it on next day,
I had it on bit longer to play around to see what options are there etc. When I power off the console to watch something
on the TV few minutes later it would not switch on but instead red light come on, with my SACD stuck inside
and would not come out
I have been concern about the state of the item, as it has brown rust in and around all the USB ports,
CF / micro / SD / and all the went that should allow circulating of air.
So send a message to the and been told by the seller that is normal and that it is a "dust" that got inside as it was sitting
on his shelf for a while and that I should clean the console myself following YouTube videos
Looking into this more I realised that those Sony Play Station consoles had a problem with GPU overheating and when too hot it would melt the connection
between the GPU processor and motherboard of the console and it could either be fixed temporarily by baking in it with hot fan (and hope it would fix itself),
or reballing it detaching the GPU cleaning and attaching it to the motherboard again and getting extra cooling / fans attached to
the consoles at great cost.
I have contacted seller and he was happy to refund me £30 as a gesture of goodwill, but I would end up with a console that was not working,
has my expensive SHM-SACD stuck in it and short of £110
so I declined the offer.
I have contacted eBay, but just got an e-mail from them that Customer Support has reviewed the case and made a final decision. We've
considered the case carefully and decided not to issue you with a refund.
Decision:
This case has been decided in the seller's favour.
Comments:
We've determined that the seller has described the item accurately.
Unfortunately, pages.ebay.co.uk/help/policies/buyer-protection.html
only covers items received if there was something wrong with them.
So today I tried to open the console to see what it is like inside, but I can't as cover has been super glued
to the console (there is slight residue of the super glue that overspilled on one corner as well
I got so upset that I went to give feedback to the seller to warn others, but it's been removed from the seller's Feedback Profile because of a recent decision on the case.
pages.ebay.co.uk/help/policies/defect-removal.html
How did I supposed to know that those things have been badly manufactured and break and are temp fixed to be resold to unsuspecting buyers?
Looking around I understand that the console developed YLOD should that have been mentioned in the listing?

I haven't read all the post as it is a bit confusing and I'm not techie.
Exactly what type of case did you open? If you opened a SNAD case within the correct time frame and the item was sold as working you should have won it- so can you please confirm.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. It's worth bearing in mind that this particular PS3 model is over seven years old, as you know. It's always worth researching problems before buying any technical item, used or new.
You might have a legitimate claim if the listing did not mention any faults or flaws. But then again - it was working when it arrived. Video-out, sound, disc drive. Shaking in transit during shipping may have caused the YLOD to finally occur, just a couple of days later. A super-glued case is circumstantial evidence and proof of nothing.
If they were not a business seller, I don't think you stand a chance, sorry. (This case reminds me of second-hand cars, for some reason!)Q: What kind of discussions aren't allowed?
A: It goes without saying that this site's about MoneySaving.
Q: Why are some Board Guides sometimes unpleasant?
A: We very much hope this isn't the case. But if it is, please make sure you report this, as you would any other forum user's posts, to forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com.0 -
Without seeing the original listing, it's impossible for anyone to say if ebay's decision is fair or not.0
