Dyson Heater running costs?

I know this maybe in the wrong forum but thought i'd post anyway.

We have just bought the Dyson AM05 floor standing heater and lover it.

However we were just unsure on the running costs to have this on say, per hour?

We know it is efficient, and cheap to run and was told by the Dyson specialist, that on full its around 0.03p per hour?

This seems very cheap, so just wanted to check with other users as its a 2KW heater, before we leave it on for a while (we are quite rationed with it due to unknown costs) but would be good to know :)

It will use 2 units per hour when running except the time the thermostat turns it off. Check the price per Kwh (unit) of electricity.

By the way I don't know what a Dyson heater is but all electric heaters are 100% efficient in turning electricity into heat.

I think he lied, any 2kw heater on full will use 2units of electric, if your units price is say 12p it will use 24p per hour on full.

All electric heater use the same i bought a cheap convector heater from argos £22 it will use the same as yours.

    I admit yours looks better

The Dyson bloke was talking rubbish.

A 2kw heater will use 2kw. So even a super-duper Dyson will still use 2kw.

The running costs will be proportional to the time you have it switched on, the temperature that you set the thermostat and the heat loss in the room. Generally the running costs for any heater would be roughly the same in the same situation.

The only difference being your comfort factor - sitting in front of a fan heater you'll feel warmer quicker than waiting for a radiator to heat the room so you might feel inclined to turn it down a bit but it isn't going to be any cheaper to run than a 2kw £10 fan heater from Argos.

Thanks, thats fine, I did just think that 0.03p was ridiculous..

I wouldn't change it, just wanted to know what the price would be per hour really :)

The £350 you could have saved by buying a £10 2kw fan heater would actually have provided you with 2300Kwh of 'free' heating lol....enough to supply the total electricity costs of the average house for approx 8 months!*

    * Based on 15p per unit although you can get it even cheaper!!

    - £400 quid for a 2kW fan heater is madness
    - there are dozens of remote controlled 2kW fan heaters at £30
    - one such ceramic 2kW remote controlled fan heater retails at £30 here
    - I could buy 13 @ £30 for the same price as your one
    - or - I could buy 26kW of distributed heat output for the same price as your 2kW
    - or have 6 months free leccy instead of the overpriced Dyson
    - your money - you decide - price per kW of resistive heating is always regardless of £30 or £400 per applience unit

The cost of that Dyson heater is about the same as my annual gas bill. And for that I heat a 3 bedroom house, have 365 days of hot water, and hob cooking.

I'm sure it's a very pretty heater, but not very MSE. ;):D

I hope you are not exaggerating his exaggeration. Did he really claim and mean 0.03p or did he at least mean 3p or £0.03? Of course even averaging only 250 Watts is ridiculously optimistic.

Time to dig out this conversation with Verizon again.
