My virgin 0% runs out on 3rd August and I have no where to tranfer it to....and I cannot get a new card.

I have rang MBNA and they say they won't extend the offer OR lower my standard rate from 15.9%!!!

ANy Suggestions?

    ..... something seems to have happened between you getting your last card and now, would you have expected to get another? Might be worth checking your credit profile for free.

    In the meantime, if you are sure that you can't get another card (and quick-fire credit searches will only hinder this), do you think your bank would give you a loan at a lower rate than the MBNA card? Have they hinted in the past that they would?

    We have found that when you pay off a chunk of your card you will be sent a letter (or chqs) offerring you a balance transfer rate. We got .9%. MBNA have done this to us about three times. It might be worth asking if you are in the running for any of these future offers. if you have any other cards you might be able to transfer some. Not helpful if you only have one card though unfortunately.
    pushing Virgin quite hard might help too. indicating you are likely to transfer the balance, talk about closing the account, wanting to talk to customer retention. these things get them worried. if you have always paid on time then they want to keep you even at a reduced interest rate.
