email problems outlook express keeps crashing

Can anyone help me I'm having a nightmare with my email account, yesterday I noticed that I seemed to have email that crashed outlook express everytime I went to click on it, so I just avoided going near it, however when I shut down last night I deleted the email above it therefore leaving myself on the dodgy email, the thing crashed, I used task manager to close outlook and shut down and went to bed, when I now try to open outlook express to view my new emails today it just crashes as soon as it's opened because I'm on the dodgy emal I can't do anything I click to close OE down but then I get the ' not responding' not at the top, please can someone give me an idea what to do.
Thanks.
Vicky

I tried system restore, but it doesn't do anything to emails so that didn't work, but thanks for the suggestion, anyone else?

    do a search for *.dbx
cut and paste inbox.dbx to your desktop.
go back into Outlook Express and you'll have no inbox.
create a new sub folder called inbox2 and copy 1 unimportant email into it (from any where)
    close outlook express
rename the inbox.dbx on the desktop to inbox2.dbx
copy that folder back to where your .dbx folders are located
go back into outlook express and your old inbox will be in the inbox2 folder with a brand new inbox.
Go into your inbox2 folder and copy what you want to keep to the new inbox and delete the inbox2 folder.

you've not got OE open when you're trying have you? the files will be in use so it won't let you copy over it.

i've had to do it loads of times at work so it should work. Or possibly the file is at its maximum size which is why it crashes and you don't have enough hard drive space to copy it back

Do you mean paste the inbox back to the search results? or do I follow the path of documentsandsettings etc, I've tried to paste to where the search results are and when I right click the paste in dulled out, so can't do that, I've tried to go throughto where it says the folder is C:\\documents and settings\ compaq_owner\local settings\ application data\ Identities (then a load more stuff) but I get to the Compaq_owner bit then there is no local settings folder, so I'm stumped.

you need to follow the path. if there's no local settings you need to go into tools> options> view and allow to see hidden folders

Right slowly slowly we're getting there I got to the hidden folders, found my way to the outlook express folder is I pasted the inbox in, it is showing that it's there, But, when I open OE up it's not actually in the inbox 2 folder,
What am I doing wrong .

are they exactly the same name? the folder name will create a file with the same name. If you called the file inbox2.dbx and the folder inbox 2 then it won't realise as there'll be an inbox2.dbx and an inbox 2.dbx

Yes that was the problem I just looked at them again and I had to knock off the .dbx of of the end, I pasted it again and it over-wrote it, thank you, But I still can't get to my old emails because it's still opening on the dodgy email and crashing OE, but at least I can get new emails through now.
