Hotel near Alton Towers?
renowen
Hi
Want to book a trip to Alton Towers for me and my 3 children over me eldest's birthday. The Alton Towers hotels are rather pricey so looking for recommendations for other places to stay.
We have Merlin passes and would need to stay 1 night. We have no car so will need to be reachable without huge cab fares (happy to jump on buses!)
Any one able to help?
Thanks x

then use booking.com - particularly the map to either find a hotel within walking distance of the park or on the bus route

The no driving makes it a bit more difficult; and the park is in the middle of nowhere so taxis aren't necessarily ever going to be cheap0 -
Wherever you pick, please read Trip Advisor first. 99 times out of 100 I do this. However the one time we booked a hotel within a couple of miles of Alton Towers, I failed to do so.
I'm not naming it, but it was without doubt (oh how we laugh about it now!) the worst place we have ever stayed. The Trip Advisor reviews are atrocious!!
Edit: I seem to remember there is a B&B with walking access to a back entrance of the park. No idea what it's called, but the local tourist info site may point you in the right direction.0 -
Not a hotel but a B + B.
Stayed at the Dog + Patridge BB a couple of months ago and it was great. It is situated a few countryside miles away from Alton Towers, being in the countryside the views and grounds are great.0 -
I can highly recommend the holiday cottages at "broadhurst farm" it's very close - five mins drive and although they have a minimum 2 night duration the prices are very cheap. They have a few different sized cottages on their farm and are a lovely friendly family. We have stopped using premier inn and always use them now, we have three teeenagers too and the extra space great.MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0

Premier Inn Hanley. Walking distance to the bus station, you can get a bus from there directly to Alton Towers with no changes. It's a fairly new hotel so still nice, modern and clean. May not be called Hanley but it will be the only one in Stoke with an ST1 postcode.0

Alton towers is quite rural. I would agree that the Premier in Stoke (Hanley/ Festival Park) is a pretty good bet. Its only a short 10 min walk to the Bus station, easily done even with toddlers.
Watch the buses tho! Depending on when your stay is (eg overnight, then on to Towers - or Towers then onto Hotel - even might be Towers, hotel, then Towers again?).
The buses run at funny times in the evening back to Hanley, and sometimes you need to get the Newcastle bus back, and make your way onto Hanley after -
e.g my daughter went for Scarefest; got the bus from hanley in the morning, but had to get the bus back to Newcastle under Lyme in the evening.
Dont worry too much tho, as 'first bus' do an all day ticket, which in October 2014 was about £5.50. That allowed DD to catch any bus on any route for one day. They also do an all day family ticket which is cheaper still, depending on how many of you there are. All the tickets are called 'first' something, so first day, or first family (I think). The website is quite good tho.
They told me on the phone that they log how many Alton Towers fares they get a day, so they make sure they provide enough spaces for the return journey.
If you do end up in Newcastle under Lyme tho, its really no biggy, its only about 3 miles from the Premier Inn and has a well stocked, and licensed taxi rank at the bus station.
Have a great time, and dont forget your swimming cossies, Towers also have the Splash Landings resort!0 -
