How to repair smallish hole in kitchen ceiling (see pic)

23sb50y.jpg

There's a hole in my kitchen ceiling that needs to be filled/mended/closed/repaired. The longer side is about the width of a supermarket till receipt (about 7 cm long). It is located in a tight corner as per the picture above, something that needs to be considered. Thanks for helping me out!

For a proper decent repair you will need to make things bigger, square the hole off for starters.

Then put a wooden lath above the hole, make it longer than the hole and screw that in place.

With a piece of plasterboard - you can buy small sheets from B&Q and the likes, cut out a piece of board roughly the same size as the hole. Offer it up to make sure it fits and screw that into the wooden lath. That's the hole blocked up.
You could then seal the gaps with a flexible filler like decorators caulk, and them use some ready mix artex to make it the same texture as the existing ceiling.

forgot to say that I have no access to the area "above" the hole. As it is located between the ground floor and the first floor (just underneath my bath tub).I guess it makes things slightly more difficult

Do you want a proper repair, or a 'cover it over and hope nobody notices while I sell it" repair?

For the latter, I did see (and have used) the technique of using a small piece of parcel tape and then painting over :o

I don't intend to sell my place for a while but a parcel tape would be a bit too flimsy. Thanks for the suggestion though!

think about getting the whole ceiling skimmed over to cover over the artex

You don't need to be above to do this, just feed the wood through the hole and screw in from below, a nice square hole is easier to fix:)
