Cheeky to ask vendor if I can get some builders round to quote?

  • We are looking at doing the same and on the cusp of exchange (supposed to tomorrow eeek!)

We've had a number of visits from 3 contractor firms since our offer has been accepted to get quotes on the work required as identified after the survey.

We want the work to start straight away (we are due to complete on the 16th, and Electrican booked for the 19th!) so by having our estimates done before hand we've been able to confirm and start as soon as we get the keys practically.

If we'd waited, we'd be at least 6 / 7 weeks away from work starting, this way we have managed to line up so the work is completed before we have to vacate our current property... or at least thats the plan!:rotfl: :rotfl::rotfl:

    Hi
Perhaps if you do end up asking the son over a few times you could offer him some petrol money?
Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)

    Exactly what I did.

One thought - be careful what you tell the vendor as to the extent of your plans. They may be sentimental about the house and their Father's death may be recent and so a sensitive issue.
I've seen vendors decide against buyers when they learned of their plans to knock the property about once bought. Sounds mad, but people do get attached.

By all means get builders in, we've had potential buyers do that. Don't necessarily expect money off for discretionary changes (although necessary repairs are a different matter).
