We have booked flights for Canada in June. We are now looking at accomodation and it it extortionate
Are there any sites folk can recommend for accomodation in Canada that don't cost the earth?
We are going to Calgary, Jasper, Lake Louise, Vancouver, Vancouver Island and Banff.
Thanks

Try Super 8 http://www.super8.com They have roughly the same level of accommodation as Holiday Inn, Comfort Inn, etc but at a lower cost. I've used them on many occasions in various parts of the Canada and USA with no problems. Some locations offer free simple breakfasts.
If you're happy to consider relatively nearby locations instead of the expensive tourist towns then for the Lake Louise area you could try Golden (on the western side of Kicking Horse Pass), and for the Jasper area try Hinton (some way to the east)."Such an enormous country, you realize when you cross it" - Jack Kerouac0 -
Thank you. I will get oh half to start looking. He has booked most places provisionally but all can be changed without loss

I would be very careful about booking Super 8's
Look at Tripadvisor reviews before you book
E.g-quick search
Vancouver
Calgary
My past experiences with them is basically never again unless I'm really desparate for a one night quick stop en-route
No idea why John always recommends them TBHO.
We did your route a few years back-though the opposite way.
Had rental in Jasper for about 4 days IIRC and did day trips to Lake Louise etc.
Stayed with relatives In Vancouver so can't help there.
Priceline or maybe Hotwire could be useful depending on the number of people in the group.0 -
The Rockies are expensive, but I've kept costs down in the past by using Hotels.com or Hotelclub.co.uk in combination with Topcashback or Quidco
From Jasper, I would suggest driving North on 16 then South on 97, and stop off near Clearwater for at least two nights to see Wells Gray Provincial Park.
I don't know if these are in your budget, but I can recommend;
*Buffalo Mountain Lodge
700 Tunnel Mountain Lodge
Banff, AB CA T1L 1B3
Alpine Village Cabin Resort
Box 610, Jasper, Alberta T0E 1E0 Canada.
Telephone: 780.852.3285
Alpine Meadows Resort
3400 Dunn Lake Road
Clearwater, BC V0E 1N0, Canada
(250) 587-6368
*Emerald Lake Lodge Hotel, PO box 10, V0A 1G0
Field, BC Tel: 250 343 6321
Check https://www.crmr.com/ as well as the usual hotel agencies. They sometimes have good specials.
Even if you are on a tight budget, try and treat yourself to at least one spectacular hotel.0
