Bad work in bathroom installation

  • The cooker is okay - it was a qualified electrician who identified that and showed me what was happening with his meter so I'm fine with it - the breaker was definitely not the right one. But it was someone else who investigated the leak and proclaimed it the responsibility of the folk who installed the bath. I wouldn't know what to look for myself but the bath panel is a bone of contention as well - they went crazy with the sealant stuff and it's now come away and the panel is cracked in 2 places. Basically the job was done in a hurry after things went wrong at their end - bottom line. Anyway that's fine - I can get another one - but it's really the issue of getting the guys in and them saying no it's nothing to do with our work.

I don't see the point of getting someone in (again) to fix it if it's this company's mistake in the first place - surely they should be the ones to sort out the problem if they caused it?

Is the general consensus that too much time has passed now and I should just get someone else to fix it?

  • I would think it has been too long but in any case would you want the same company back to do more work given you seem to be pretty unhappy about what they've done before?
  • Well yes if they've created a problem - they should be the ones to put it right surely? It's not new work - it's work they possibly haven't done properly which has created another problem as a result so I would think they would be the ones to put that right instead of me shelling out more money for someone else to do it. That doesn't make sense to me. But yes I think you're right - probably too much time has passed now and I didn't pick up what it was originally which would have helped.

I run a property maintenance company and do a lot of bathroom and kitchen installations. I always offer a 12 month guarantee on workmanship. Even if there are problems after that we will go and sort it for free. But not three and a half years down the line. A wide range of things could have happened in that time to create a leak, none of which will be the fault of the installer.

You can write as many letters as you wish to the original installers, but don't expect them to rectify it for free, nor to accept any level of liability for it.

  • Ok thanks Phill - that's what I wanted to check - it did seem too long a time to me too and it was only because it was identified as being connected to the bath installation specifically that made me want to contact them but yes fair enough - I take that point.

  • gotta say i agree with phill
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.
  • Yeah I waited too long :( - thanks anyway though.
