Crazy high bill for a month - British gas?!

19 Nov 2014 - We read your meter 020976
19 Dec 2014 - Estimated your meter reading 03081
(We just checked our meter and its currently at 03094 today)
Something is not right here. You cannot have a reading of 20976 followed by readings of 3081 and 3094. If it is 2097, then you have used 107 cm3 since 19 Nov or, at my rate, about £39 worth of gas. My guess is that you are dealing with a catch up bill. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

3081 - 2976 = 105 units
Assuming imperial units:
105 x 31 = 3,255 kWh
Assuming 4p per kWh: 4p x 3,255 = £130.20
Plus standing charge.
All they did was to over-estimate against actual consumption.
So, texting did not work.0 -
What did your prievious bill give as the amount owing - this looks like a catch-up billNever pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0

I think the November reading is meant to say 2976 - easy typo.
However, there are two critically important pieces of information which we don't have.
1: the readings from 2013 and 2012.
2: Whether this is a metric meter (m3) or imperial (cu feet).
Without these, we don't know if there has been a sudden catch-up bill (the most likely explanation), or something else has gone wrong.0 -
I'm a little confused over the £20/m and £80 / m. Are these your figures as i assume the bills you are getting are quarterly. As you have a bill for £200 I also assume you are not paying by DD.
Is the reading 2976 - if so the estimated one is a very good estimate - confirmed by your actualNever pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0
