    Ouch.

To be fair though, it wasn't a case of them being legally permitted to kill it. That won't mean much to the owner (or the horse) but at least justice will (may) be done.
  • My horse is insured, but insurance wont cover this as she suffered a bout of colic 14 months ago and it is now classed as a pre existing condition.

My shopping is done monthly and all my other bills have already been paid, so i am ok until i get paid. Its just ive had to pay a £350 vet bill. I had most of it, but had to use my overdraft to pay the rest, and also £60 to the yard owner, so my overdrafts at its limit (for the first time ever).

I dont have any credit cards, as i dont like living beyond my means, and think credit cards encourage you to spend what you dont have, but am still £40 short. The yard owner is still being difficult and wants her £40.

I dont really have anything of value, my phone is a cheap £20 one, and the computer im typing this on is my dads. As you can tell, im not a big spender. I learnt lessons from being in debt when i was 19 years old, and swore id never go back to that.

Your only option is to speak nicely to the yard owner.
"Facism arrives as your friend. It will restore your honour, make you feel proud, protect your house, give you a job, clean up the neighbourhood, remind you of how great you once were, clear out the venal and the corrupt, remove anything you feel is unlike you... [it] doesn't walk in saying, "our programme means militias, mass imprisonments, transportations, war and persecution."
  • Agree, speak to the yard owner maybe offer to do abit of work for them or if they wait for payment you will give them a few quid more as interest.
    Hopefully they are reasonable people.

Same as above, speak to your bank about extending your overdraft and explain it's the vet bill that has caused the problem. (And then start an emergency savings pot)

They will presumably be fed though? Just not by you. I can't see a livery owner starving owners horses because of non-payment. The RSPCA might have a few issues with that.

On the upside, at least they aren't being sold to a glue factory.

Did nobody hear of the case recently where a horse was shot dead and dumped in the owner's back yard, all for a £30 unpaid bill. RSPCA! Don't make me laugh. I've reported several cases of emaciated horses to them. They don't want to know.

No yard owner would leave horses without proper feed and water overnight - if they did they would not be a yard owner for much longer. They can chase you for money aggressively but they cant take it out on the horses..

You must be joking. You ought to see how much neglect goes on in livery yards. Nobody is held accountable, it's a disgrace.

    Already mentioned.
