Midland - Q hotel in Manchester is good, they usually have some spa offers on their website for that time of year.

    Crewe Hall is gorgeous

Or use spabreaks.com or spa breaks direct, all the nice hotel chains use them, and there are normally offers from £79 PP

I stayed in the Malmaison hotel in Manchester a couple of years ago and that's lovely, right next to Piccadilly train station and themed on Moulin Rouge, all red and black inside. The Lowry is meant to be very good too, a lot of celebs stay there.
You're so very special, I wish I was special

Havent found any great spa's that far north (well the Mrs hasnt, I prop up the bar/ she goes into the spa). Rookery Hall in Cheshire was nice but probably too far south for you.

The Lowry hotel in Manchester is very nice as a hotel but the Mrs didn't think the Spa was anything special. It was reasonable but not to the standard of others she's been to.

Second vote for Cottons, and the nearby Mere Court Hotel is also meant to be great, and they often have some really good deals on through late rooms or lastminute
