New laptop

I know there are lots of posts with the same title here, but please, bear with me!
We are looking to replace an 8yr old desktop PC with a cheap-ish laptop. We originally looked at Apple Macbook Pro (with 0% finance) but for what we will be using it for, seems a little steep at £1400+
Does anyone have any experience/reviews on Windows laptops around the £400/£500 price bracket. It will be used for browsing, using MS Office and my 7yr old is desperate to play Minecraft on it. Other than that, just a day-to day laptop which I will want to connect to my existing monitor to have a 2 screen setup.
Any suggestions/comments most welcome
