Hello, wonder if anyone can help my 21 yr old son plan a trip he has to make for a sports trial in March. He needs to get from Aberdeen to Limerick and it seems the only way is train to Edinburgh then flight to Dublin then bus to Limerick, unless anyone else can suggest any other alternatives?

Thanks.

    Fly from Edinburgh to Shannon?

Or Flybe from Aberdeen to Manchester and Ryanair from Manchester to Shannon.

Unfortunately both of these routes are very expensive but thanks anyway.

Price will depend on his dates, but there are flights from Aberdeen to Dublin with Aer Lingus (operated by Stobart Air, formerly Aer Arann) for about £100 return, less if no checked baggage or seat selection. Would still have to get from Dublin to Limerick, but one less leg to the journey. Check https://www.aerlingus.com

Might be of slightly more help if you told the OP a little more than this, how about throwing an airline out there..?

    Have you checked-out Rail-Sail?

I've not used it for a few years but it used to be pretty cheap if you could book early or travel off-peak.

In terms of purely cost, the cheapest way will be flying Glasgow or Edinburgh to Dublin with Ryanair. Most of March is available for £20-£30 return from either. Will mean a 2 hour surface journey at both ends though.

The previous suggestion of Aberdeen - Dublin with Aer Lingus will save the journey at this end but it more like £70.

Can't see any flights from Scotland - Shannon. Aer Lingus fly Glasgow and Edinburgh to Cork and had some returns for about £70. Not sure what the connections from Cork - Limerick are like though. It'd probably still work out better using Aer Lingus ABZ-DUB.
