This may be a numpty question but we've never had a TV that is much more than basic. We're looking to buy a TV that happens to be 'Smart' and also has fr eeview HD. Will we also be able to watch Sky as normal and use our nonHD Sky+ box with it? The ports it has are;
1x HDMI in, 1x SCART in, 1x USB
Thanks

Yes it will work just fine.
You can connect the Sky box either via the HDMI input or SCART socket.0 -
Sparx is right in answer to your question - you're using SCART at the moment to connect, and can continue to do so on your new TV.
Off on a tangent - 1 HDMI port isn't very impressive for a new TV these days, that may come back to bite you later.
And on another tangent, just in case you're not aware, there are stacks of Sky HD+ boxes on eBay, Gumtree etc, that will give you a much better picture and features, plugged into your HDMI, for £60 and less...0 -
As stated by Almillar above, only 1 HDMI will bite you in the future - for example, a DVD player. If Freeview HD gives you all the free to air HD channels compared to what's available FTA on Sky, then going Sky+ HD won't be necessary. You can find channel listings via Google.
2 other points :
New LCD sets are very thin, so speakers are not great. Check the sound quality, you may find yourselves wanting a sound bar or surround system!
Viewing angle - we recently looked at new TV's - John Lewis always have a superb collection on display - and found that the viewing angle on LED sets (side to side) was quite narrow compared to our plasma screen. Stand in front of an LED, then move slowly sideways, you'll see what I mean. We ended up buying a second hand 50" Panasonic plasma for £270 - it's got freesat and freeview, not HD on either, and is not Smart, but we do have a Sky+ HD box. The screen is crystal clear from anywhere in our living room.0
