Easiyo v homemade yogurt

I bought an Easiyo yogurt maker & some skimmers yogurts packs.

I'm on the last pack now.

I can buy 12 for about £20, they will work out about £1.66 each.

Each pack makes a litre of yogurt.

If I made it myself with uht milk (I've never made yogurt before) would 1 litre of skimmed uht milk make a litre of yogurt.

So this would be far cheaper than buying the sachets.

Anyone else make home made yogurt with skimmed milk?

There's a large thread on the site if you search about Easiyo and homemade yoghurt. I did use the easiyo flask to make homemade yoghurt but a bit of a faff so sachets are easier IMO.

The sachets contain soya, which I prefer not to eat, so I use a small carton of Yeo Valley plain yogurt and most of a litre of UHT milk - using UHT there is no need to pre-boil the milk, as there would be if using fresh milk.

I've been very happy with the results.

Do you make it in an Easiyo?

Do you just mix the yogurt with the uht milk & put in flask?

I put the contents of the small Yeo Valley carton in the 1 litre Easiyo tub, add approx half the UHT milk straight from its carton, close the tub, shake it, then add more UHT milk to the tub up to the 1 litre mark, close the tub again, shake and then place in the insulated container with hot water up to the mark.

Well that's as simple as the sachets :-)
    Thank you.

I have an easiyo and I froze the yogurt I made with the sachet in starter sized portions, works very well with uht milk :)

I thought you could just keep about a pots worth back each time & use that?

The yogurt made with sachets counts as a starter. We didn't eat any I made with the sachet, I portioned it all up and froze it to use with uht milk. Works very well :)

But could you not have just kept a little back each time & used that to make the next batch?

From my understanding it gets very bitter and less effective after two or three uses.

You could try and see if you notice a difference, it could be that its something some are more sensitive to than others.

Personally I buy the sm own brand natural yogurt. 500ml @ 50ish p does around 5 batches with a carton of UHT
That sounds like a classic case of premature extrapolation.
