By all means express your opinion. As that's what this forum is for. If you merely wish to dispense insults at least show some creedance by posting something intelligent and factual.0 -

Other lenders to choose from OP, focus on building a financial relationship with another bank with the aim of getting as mortgage. Yes you made a mistake but learn from it, not all guys are like him.0

I think you were a bit harsh particularly as the poster is a Newbie, although I do have to agree with the essence of what you were saying.
As others have said it is perfectly possible to choose a bank other than Gnat West, the frank bank ( How disappointed I was to no longer be able to get that Viz tshirts!)Debt LBM (08/09) £11,641. DEBT FREE APRIL 2021.

I had to write to the bank and explain to them that I was no longer with my other half and I wanted my name removed from a joint account. I was told by them that I needed her permission to remove my name! Strange I know. I had to wait several months for this to happen and it did effect my credit rating.
I did eventually manage to get my name off but took emails, phone calls and patience.I love green dots :T I hate red dots :mad:0 -

Is it not a fact that the bank could have chased the OP ex-partner? It is not a fact that this particular arrangement WAS a three-way relationship? Is it not a fact that the banks always go for the easy targets?
Please point out anything I've posted that isn't factual.0 -
I have closed a NatWest joint account before with just my sigDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

I had a joint natwest account with my knob head ex, I needed his signature to take my name off it.
Unbeknownst to me though he had managed to get hold of a card for it (it was long dormant, I hadn't had a card for it or used it in 7/8 years), then being the idiot that he was ended up overdrawn by £500 odd, a lot of which was bank charges.
I argued (nicely) with natwest that it was nothing to do with me - I am aware of joint and several liability before anyone jumps on that. But I pointed out that I hadn't had a card in many years. They asked me to pay £60 and closed the account - they were quite understanding in the end.
Much better than being £500 out of pocket. I'm very glad that was the only joint financial product we had.The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0 -
I had a credit card with Natwest in 2006 and ended up with a CCJ at 20 (I know, bad start), but last year I was able to get a credit card with them on their awesome 0% deal a day or two before they removed it. I've also had cards from Barclaycard and Halifax since.
I however have been extremely careful with my money since that CCJ (I'm 28 now) and definitely paid for that mistake.
If you are still paying off the debt, I would say that there is pretty much no chance I'm afraid. But as others have said, there are many other lenders out there. Why do you want to use RBS Group anyway?
You're best off getting in touch with a broker and explaining the situation. I'm sure they would be able to help you.
Good luck0
