Stock trading does involve taking some risks as does poker but that's just about where all similarities end.

this is one option, and you can be certain that the fund managers know a heck of a lot more about stock trading than you (and I and most people) will probably ever do. The other alternative is that you opt for tracker funds which follow parts or all of the market. There is a school of thought, supported by stacks of historical data, that no fund manager will be able to consistently beat the market.

yes, all investments / stock trading come with charges. Outside S&S ISAs, it also comes with tax, which is probably a bit of a shock for a poker player.

i think im gonna invest some serious time into learning some sort of stock trading - apparently the skillset required is similar to poker, im fairly blas! as regard to risk, but id prefer it to be calculated and based the merits of my own research/knowledge....and an S&S ISA seems like im just giving some fund manager 15k to punt about with (prob thinking of this a bit crudely+naieve)...it also seems theres a bunch of charges aswell

this TSB account, it says ur capped at 2k... "If you’ve more than £2,000, you don’t get interest on anything above, so find another savings account for the extra, or check other bank accounts, such as Santander above." .... so how do you get 8k in there? quote

    hi cristo.
Make a appointment to go to the T.S.B & arrange with them on the appointment to open as many £2000 deposits accounts that they allow, in our case it was 6 !, so thats £12.500 thats earning 4% , i did this & everything went smooth, we took proof of identity & £500 cash, dont forget to take your wife if married, the staff were very helpful , they will ask you to put your passwords in & set the accounts up on line for you & in our case once the set up was complete it was on line the same day , the £500 is set up to feed the accounts the reqd amount to run it , pin nos for your cards will follow on in the post.
Do the same at Santander & open 2x£20,000 accounts earning 4% & thats all your money gone , & its all in current accounts & can be got at when reqd. no more than 2 hours to get it all up & running, & i have had no problems whatsoever.
You will need £500 a month to feed the santander account from a external source & 2 direct debits .You need nothing for the tsb, the same £500 keeps going roun d each account funding it every month.

  • I am also a poker player am looking at what to do with some money now my online games have dried up, then this thread pops up.

I have already looked into funding circle and some small business ventures but nothing seems to be jumping out at me just yet.

I am looking for something slightly higher vs reward than savings accounts though.

    Best of luck sikas!
