Fairly easy ...Thanks
Its exactly what i was looking for ..
I am still debating micro inverters in my head too ! I've got a few days to change my order , i've got one of the immersun things to divert the excess to the immersion tank when i am about to export too .
How often do panels play up or become defective ? I've gone with solarworld 250w by the way .0 -

What was your final quote by the way and what swayed you to solarworlds?
Good call by the way with the immersion diverter(wish I had a hot water tank)2 kWp SEbE , 2kWp SSW & 2.5kWp NWbW.....in sunny North Derbyshire17.7kWh Givenergy battery added(for the power hungry kids)0 -
The final quote was £6100 , which initially was £5300+vat . This was for candian panels and inverter , thats £5565 . I then had a rethink and got Solarworlds and the Immersun for the extra . Its a local big company and not a fly by night , gone in a couple of years type firm . Thats worth £500 to me at least .
I went for solarworlds as people i know have them and they are german and also have a longer manufacturer guarantee .0 -

Funny how different installers and people rate different panels. My last installer recommended Canadians and at that time I'd not even heard of solarworlds, that was back end of 2013
As for guarantee, think you'll find most come with a 20 year warranty, which will go first...the installer or the panels(best not worry about that(my first installer has already gone(nice big local company)))
I'm not trying to spook you(honest), just telling it as it is from experience.

FYI this is what I got installed:
16 x 250watt black on black panels Canadian Solar
3.68 Omnik inverter
I-boost
Geo monitor
for £4750
It is a single storey extension so no need for scaffolding. Also my builder lent them his platform for the day so they were able to knock off a couple of hundred quid.
The whole job took a day and a half and they were pretty helpful and responded promptly with to any issues. (any FIT company and faulty generation meter).
I would recommend them for the job done and price.
Currently only generating about 6KW per day.0 -

Hello
I know very little about solar panels however, I am interested to find our more.
I have a detached dormer bungalow and it has been suggested 12 panels or 3 something production.
What would be the best type of system and how much should I expect to pay for them?
Many thanks0 -
Hi lovetowinacar,
The best type of system for your property can depend on a number of difference factors - orientation and pitch of roof, how much roof space you have suitable for panels, whether you have any shading etc, etc.
Sorry don't mean to confuse you further. Has someone been out to do a survey for you? If so, if you post the details of that, then I am sure that you will get plenty of advice from others on here.0 -

Hiya lovetowinacar.
Standard panels (there are many non-standard types) are typically 1m by 1.6m in size and produce peaks (p) of 250W each, so typically referred to as 250Wp. 12 panels would be rated at 3,000Wp or 3kWp, so all that fits with what you've said.
Cost wise, it'll depend on how much shopping you do, and how pre-armed you are - so asking on here is a great start - perhaps £4k upto £5k for a 3kWp system, requiring little scaffolding.
For the basics on PV have a read of the PV FAQs sections 1 & 2. Maybe have a try of section 5 to work out your estimated annual generation too.
Then come back and ask loads of questions.
Mart.Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 20kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.
For general PV advice please see the PV FAQ thread on the Green & Ethical Board.0 -

Hello, we have had a person out to do a survey. He suggested 10 panels producing 2.5 on the roof - which would have some shading for part of the day. The cost he quoted was £9,800. We were contacted a few days later to say they could do 12 panels - 3 KW? and this would be approx £8000. He did say we could get them cheaper but many installers were not regulated or offer full guarantees etc.0
