Acronis image backup started failing!

Been using Acronis 9, booting it off CD, to backup my laptop disk to external USB drive.
After a bad crash (lost power) I had a corrupted Outlook file. Now when I try and backup with Acronis it runs for a bit then bombs out with no real explanation.
Can Acronis trip over a bad sector or some other corruption? I don't really want to scan the laptop disk while I don't have an up-to-date backup. Catch 22:mad:
