I have found Turkey to be a pretty stressful holiday destination unless you are travelling with menfolk as there seems to be the perception that all Western women are there to be chased and harassed as we are 'easy' apparently. You may not get this if with your son but when I went with a female friend we had so much hassle that we couldn't eat out etc.

Exactly what i would of said i went to marmaris about 5 years ago as a single mom with 2 reenage daughters it was a nightmare with the males that work at resort and in the shops went to belek last year much nicer no hassle.
    Ps egypt was the same.
Easier if you have a male travelling you get no hassle
    Good luck
  • in Marmaris being Black British won't make any difference to your holiday experience, compared with any of the other tourists there :).

I'm confused as to what you mean? Can you be clearer? (If possible)

I took it to mean your being black would be no issue - and that you'd have the same experience as all the other (multi-ethnic) families who visit Marmaris :)

I very much doubt you will have any trouble or issues being black british in Marmaris or most other tourists resorts in Turkey.
If you were to head into remote Turkey the very worst you would get is a stare, but to be honest I am an olive skinned dark haired woman and when I went to non tourist places I got stared at too. It's not to be offensive, but more a case that everybody knows everybody in the smaller villages and they usually know when you're new to the area.

Being a lone woman shouldn't really pose a problem. If you are going all inclusive you will spend a lot of time in the hotel anyway, but when you do go out and about you may find that people invite you in to their bar / restaurant. Some are polite, some a little cheekier and like a bit of banter, and on rare occasions you will find some people that are downright rude. (same everywhere). Turkish people by nature are friendly and want you to have a good holiday so will do there best to make it happen. Don't feel that you can't leave your hotel or that you'll be hassled everywhere you go.

Not all Turkish men are sleazy, and not all Turkish men want to get in british girls knickers. Having lived there for three years though I can safely say that there are plenty of british woman (and russian, german, dutch too) who leave their knickers at the airport along with any common sense and would happily jump into bed with the first waiter that comes along.

Yes i have heard similar reports of lone females or single mums forever being pestered by certain Turks in a very insistent and intimidating manner. Dogs on heat..
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..
