House insurance that covers renovation

Hi all,
A question that has been asked before but some of the responses are rather out of date.
Finally almost at exchange (once solicitors decide to get back to doing some work) and need to confirm buildings insurance. The issue is that we're not moving in straightaway as the house needs a fair bit of work doing, and most standard policies won't cover renovation. There will be a small bit of structural work (wall removal, brick up back door) which complicates matters further.
We only expect the house to be empty for a couple of months, as we're currently renting so we'll be moving in whether it's finished or not! Obviously therefore the policies that cover six months or a year are not terribly helpful here.
Anyone have any recommendations? If possible I'd prefer somewhere that can then convert to standard buildings/contents insurance once we're in, rather than a standalone policy.
Many thanks in advance

Perhaps the best thing is to contact a broker and explain the situation. They should be able to suggest a suitable company.
If this is going to take time and you need something very quickly to keep your solicitor happy and allow progress to be made you could buy normal house insurance on line and cancel it within the cooling off period.
Having said this, clearly you want the correct insurance in place before you exchange.0 -
We were in a very similar situation last year and went with a company called Versatile Insurance which I found after a fairly extensive google search and comparing prices between a couple of different companies. We were able to convert it to a regular home insurance policy when the work was completed and we moved in (there was an administrative fee of £25 to do this).0

We used this
http://www.renovationplan.co.uk/
we found it to be competitively priced and flexible depending on how long the project will take.
it can't be converted but IMHO a company that does that won't give a competitive quote for each type of insurance.0
