Can someone tell me if a constant increase in 'page file usage' as shown on Task manager indicates a need for more memory ?

Answer - not a lot - surfing net sing IE - google searches..
I do tend to have a lot of stuff open though as I'm a multi-tasking type of gal.
Running DELL 8300 P4 3.00GHz 512mb RAM, XP SP2
over 11g 102mbs wireless network (however this machine is actually hardwired now I think of it.)
Using wireless mouse & keyboard which add to the number of tasks in TM currently = 49.
I use all the usual on a regular basis ..
ad-adware
spybot
spywareblaster
microsoft antispyware
Norton Internet security
Hijackthis
Belaric advisor..
CCleaner
There doesn't seem to be anything else I can get rid of, everthing is Kosher.
The page file usage seem to have gone up a bit recently .. sits about 392 meg ? Just wondered if that was significant..
To answer previous, nope haven't done that..is that my problem do you think?
I seem just to hang up from time to time .... so if necessary I don't mid upping thememory but I like to know why

I'd noticed a similar trend on my PC, and simply went in and manually increased the page file max size to 2Gb. If this increased page file usage isn't adversely affecting your system performance, then I wouldn't worry about it too much.I haven't been asked to tell you that I'm the Board Drunk for this board. As the night wears on, my posts will become worse, with simple spelling mistakes, inane ramblings, and a blatant disregard for the truth. I have no authority to do anything, so there's no point asking or telling me. If you see me past midnight, please tell me to get my coat and order me a taxi.

You shouldn't need a page file any larger than 512mb, 2gb is very drastic. For performance it's best to set the minimum and maximum size of the page file to the same value.
I currently run 1gb of Ram, with no page file, and never use more than 500mb, I average about 350mb (and I'm running IIS, Visual Studio.Net, Sql Server, Pest Patrol, Nod32, Trillian, Winamp, Firefox, Thunderbird, PeerGuardian, Kerio PF to name a few), so you should be fine with 512mb ram, and 512mb page file. Even when I run Photoshop it never really goes above 700mb."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0 -

I agree and so the same for my home setup. My pagefile at the mo is 205MB with 2 firefox pages open and newsleecher running. I dont really see my pagefile go above 400MB unless i'm in a game.
512MB is fine for your system, most people run 512mb and find that this is more than enough for office, browsing, email etc.
I'd set your pagefile to a static size. Defrag your hdd and see how it goes.0 -
Cheers everyone.. you're better than an 0870 number anyday!..
Done my defrag & heeded the .5gig advice.
I'lll see how I get on. :THLK
