SELLING A CAR VIA auction.

I am wanting to sell my car through an aution i have no idea what happens at these i am not meaning ebay etc i mean going to a car aution.

How do you know how much to put the car up for can you have a reserve ?Do they give you an idea what to sell for when you go?

Are the fees etc expensive.Do you still pay the fees even if car does not sell ?

I would just like general experinces and advice from anyone who has sold at a car auction

I think soo should move this to the motoring thread probably have better luck there.

One thing I do know I wouldn't go near an auction to sell a half decent car, you will get pretty close to minimum price for it.

I would try autotrader first and ebay second then as a last resort auction.

The problem for most folk selling cars is they are unrealistic on what price to expect.

    Good luck.

Most would give you a guide price. The rest, regarding fees varies from auction to auction. Some charge a flat fee for entry, some just a flat commission. I'd suggest phoning and asking, depending where you are in the country. A long standing smaller independent auctioneer would be a better idea rather than the larger companies who tend to sell ex fleet cars and wouldn't be too interested in a private seller.

You need to know about entry fee, commission, any other charges (lotting charge, advertising charge), valuation, if no sale do they charge a fee (some will, some won't). Some offer a valet service before sale which is either an additional charge or part of the initial fee.

I wouldd suggest that if you need to ask these fairly basic questions then maybe an auction isn't the best place for you to sell it.

If you need it gone quick i would whack it on ebay with a tempting buy it now price.
