Ideally you need Adode Acrobat ( not just reader) or perhaps one of the other types of pdf maker programs

That said they aren't always easy to do with those either (formating , protection ) even in acrobat it points out that its not really an editing program

You could print it out, write in the info, and scan back to pdf ( fairly common option on modern scanners)

Hope someone comes up with a better idea ?

If you really need to fill it in on the PC there is a rather slow and clumsy way of doing it. Print it off, scan it in and then use the jpeg image of the page as the header/background in a word document. Then you can create textboxes to type in the parts you want, and then just place them over the gaps in the form. Like I said, slow and clumsy! (But it works)

Agree with Payless. You're after an OCR (Optical Character Recognition) programme such as Adobe Acrobat. I've got ABBYY FineReader Sprint which came with my scanner - maybe you've got something like that too. You then open the pdf file and lift the text and paste into a Word document to edit.

    Sounds easy - I haven't tried it tho! ;)

I think it may be an electronic form. You can make these in acrobat full edition. I think you open them up in acrobat and fill them in and send them back. So no scanning or whatever.

Only if the author enabled it for online completion when they created it.

As an aside, it really annoys me when people post PDF Application Forms online and then expect you to print it off and complete it by hand. Why the hell don't they RTFM and create an online form? Ggrrrr

On many PDF documents (unless the author has disabled it) you can copy & paste the text by using the "select text" tool to select the documnt. This is a "T" icon often near the hand symbol on the tool bar. Once copied you can then paste the document into Word etc. Usually you get the formatting of the document text but not any tables that are present in the document. However depending on the type of form, this may be enough.

At least in the higher versions of Acrobat Reader, something pops up when you open the document telling you that you can complete it electronically. I haven't seen this sort of form too often though, I presume because the software needed to "rights enable" the form for Acrobat Reader costs a fortune.

    Bonzer.
