ESA Reassessment??

Hello everybody, I was awarded Support Group ESA in May 2014 until December 2015 which is when my SG WCA is due for renewal. I have recently just been awarded PIP from the 22nd of December 2014 until December 2018. I know my reassessment for ESA is quite far away but is there anything I can gather to help my review later this year? Reports from the decisions of my awards? I suffer from mental health problems I did see a Psychiatrist earlier this year but she was not very helpful and I am not very keen on seeing another :/

Any advice is helpful. I currently have my decision letter from my current ESA decision and my PIP decision. Just stressing and worrying about this renewal for ESA at the end of 2015.

Just to say that although you were awarded until Dec 2015 there is every likelihood that it will be quite a bit later than this as they are running very behind.

I did contact the DWP just after Christmas and they said that the backlog was pretty long, but they are looking at employing someone new to take over from ATOS in mid 2015. I just want to be best prepared with medical evidence when the time comes to it as I wasn't so prepared the first time.
  • Do you get any help from a community psychiatric nurse or support from your GP at all? If so getting them to write a supporting letter may be of some help especially if they link it to the SG descriptors. You can also do a subject access request to DWP asking for all the records they hold on you re ESA & PIP/DLA. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/dwp-request-for-personal-information gives you link to download & print it off. It's free.

I do have really good support from my GP, I have seen a CPN around October time she came to my home.. but I felt she was really pushy and trying to get me to do things I'm totally not ready for :(

There is little point in collecting evidence now for a reassessment which is not due for nearly 12 months. Your condition may change a lot in that time.
A new organisation is taking over the WCA this year but they have already said they expect it to take at least 18 months to clear the existing backlog of assessment which currently stands at about 600,000!!

i would not worry too much yet if its not up for renewal until December 2015 i know it can be difficult .

if you feel your not getting enough support from your GP or from the CPN , Psychiatrist you had seen you have the right to request to see another CPN , Psychiatrist and get a new GP you could always put this down to a break down in communication .

its always best to have a good and understanding GP and also the same in a CPN ,Psychiatrist you always have the choice and the right to request to see someone else i know a lot of the CMHT waiting times are longer than usual but you have 11 months to get the right support that you need before your renewal you might even be feeling better by then but its always best to have the right support available for you
  • My partner is due for review (he was placed into the main phase wrag group after we had to go to a tribunal) he was told he would be reviewed in two years which would be this September, I know September is a long way off yet but I'm really worried. I've seen a lot of things on this website about how they have a massive backlog so it could be a while until he even gets reassessed and I've seen the b&w site link where a mile informed them people being reassessed could be waiting another two years. Although that's a good thing because it means we can relax for another two years if it's right I still feel uneasy because I know b&w is a reputable website and I trust their source and information there's nothing anywhere else that I can find to back this up.
I hve a few questions aswel, from what I gather around when he is due to be reassessed he should be sent a esa50 which we will have to fill in as of a new claim Ect but then what? Will his money go back down until he finally has another medical (he waited a year and half almost to have his medical the first time and then it was about 8 months later we finally went to tribunal and won) I really don't know if we have it in is to go through all of that again and my own personal financial situation has changed as this time two years ago I was working full time and now I'm my mums full time carer so although we don't live together we sometimes borrow money off eachother / help eachother out as it is. If they put his money back down to £52 a week (he's under 25) Idont know how he would manage and I'm lot in a position where I can help him out since I struggle myself now.
Maybe I'm freaking out about nothing I think I/we could both use some reassurance.

Yes his reassessement will more than likely be delayed. However his money would stay as it is until a decision is reached as to whether he stays on ESA and which group

Thanks at least we now know his money would stay the same until they make decision , however long that may be!
