What's actually going on with the VAT thing?

I use the "fees" section to calculate profit/losses, but now they are all showing cheaper than earlier in the day, even the debits from before 1st jan, I remember reading something about VAT being removed, can anyone tell me what's going on (in simple terms)?

Looking at the forum, no one seems to know what ebay are playing atm whether VAT registered or not. I'm not, too small, and my fees are showing with no VAT, rumour is ebay will add the VAT to the invoice to collect.

All very strange, tbh. And annoying.

Didn't realise it would apply tp pysical goods come Jan 2016, so much for cross border trade, I'll have to stop selling to the EU come 2016.

same here, if this is implemented to all items come 2016 then I will have to revert back to UK only sales- a real backwards move. no way am I keeping VAT records for every country I sell to , it would be madness for a small business such as myself.

It's worse than that, we'd be expected to register in each of the member states, 28 VAT numbers even if you're under the £81k threshold.

And, non EU sellers have to comply with this nonsense too, so shopping online in China or the US might come to an end given they're not going to want to deal with all the hassle?

Makes the whole point of the EU worthless, perhaps UKIP aren't mad afterall?

The article that marking_bad linked to makes frightening reading. I can't see why this seems like a good idea to anybody. It will just make us all insular again just as we all got used to cross border trading.

Basically means only big corporations get to trade cross border.
Any small business that thinks they are going to track and account to 28 vat collectors is dreaming.
The big firms will have the budget to automate the system and will like usual abuse and pay nothing.
The small business will spend most of its time as a free tax collector for the EU.
What they are hiding is that the EU now has the power to directly set tax rates on the UK and we can do nothing about it.

Unfortunately if you are a small business and want out of this farce there is only one choice at the ballot box.

Trouble is UKIP are loons, I've always been semi in favor of the EU, but if we can't trade easily then what's the point?

I was also a bit put out to discover that the new Henry vacuum I was going to buy for my mum was only 580w due to some halfwit from the EU deciding that powerful vacuums are the work of the devil...

The reason for the threshold in the first place was the cost in checking returns for small turnover businesses was a waste of money. No one is going to be investigating if Joe Bloggs charge/paid VAT when he sold one copy of his book to a bloke in Italy.
There's already been some backtracking on this. The EU introduce a fair amount of nonsense and a fair amount of good stuff, pretty much like all governments do.
I'd rather take my chances with the nutters in the EU than the nutters in UKIP.
