I have triedmy first recipe.... A slow cooker beef stroganoff

    http://allrecipes.co.uk/recipe/7191/slow-cooker-beef-stroganoff.aspx?o_is=LV

The recipe was very easy on paper (or website anyhoŵ) however, it was really runny so I stuck it on a high heat in the frying pan for twenty minutes to reduce it down (I know you can reduce on slow cooker by removing the lid and turning up high. However it takes far too long for my liking!)

The food it's self, I felt was a little bland IF I was to do it again, I would probaly add some Dijon mustard for a bit of taste.

    So overall, I wasn't impressed!

That's a shame, I liked the sound of it when you said you were planning to make it.

There are some lovely recipes being made, the pork sounds delicious too S-Iam and I'm going to have to look up the apple and cinnamon oatmeal recipe as I love those flavours together.

Nothing else new from me yet but still planning to try the chapattis on Friday

    Hello all

I have finally cooked my first new recipe from the hairy dieters books, I've cooked two recipes in fact!

    Both are from book 3.

Firstly, I made chicken cacciatore. (Thank you for the recommendation LESLAMP). Nice and easy to do, my only change was using vegetable stock instead of chicken so I could have the sauce too. I also forgot to sprinkle the parsley on top at the end. There was five of us eating and it was a definite 'cook again' vote from all five of us.

The second recipe was Root vegetable Boulangere. I had high hopes for this as I like vege bakes usually, but... the first problem was the foils stuck to the top, peeling off all of the top layer of crunchy potato(the best bit!). I also had to pour away a lot of stock so felt there was too much to start. Out of the five of us, two was a definite 'no' wouldn't eat again, two were 'yes' and I was a maybe. Doubtful I will do again, but if I did, I'd oil the foil and use less stock.

Now perusing for my next recipe.....

    hi all

Recipe number two, chicken chassuer from the good food recipe was cooked and eaten tonight.

    http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/9100/onepot-chicken-chasseur

This had a lovely taste, i served with buttery mash and I would definatley cook it again.

One slight issue, although down to me, not the recipe, I reduced the sauce down too much. Whilst I like a thick sauce, it ended up not much of it!
Last recipe was too watery and I had to reduce it down, this one i reduced too much. Can't win!

Bit late but made the first recipe in the Dal cookbook by Krishna Dutta called strangely Homemade in Uttar Pradesh which is 'the source of sacred river Ganges'.
Have looked for an online version but can't find one - recipe is mainly 200g of lentils with onions tomatoes and spices and very cheap to make. Main job is soaking the lentils overnight and time spent cooking them. I added more water than stated but result was lovely, gently spiced dal which I served with vegetable rice, toasted pitta breads and a raita. Four of us declared it tasty and quite meaty for a veggie dish, Will make it again.
Will be making a dish from Jocasta Innes next week just not sure which one yet.
    Enjoying all the reviews

  • Evening team...

Will be doing my second bout of cookbooking this weekend. Am looking at a few recipes which include lentils.

Never tasted them! Are they just like a filler or do they actually taste of anything???

    Hey all,

I just noticed this thread and will be following with interest! I am not the greatest cook in the world, but can cook a few basics from scratch really well! The only problem is, like most of you, we end up stuck on them! Anything inventive I try to create ends up awful or just tasteless!

I do have a few cookbooks (most were gifts funnily enough :rotfl: ) Jamies 15 mins and Save with, and a hairy bikers, some slow cooker books too. I also have a load of tear-out recipes which haven't been tried and another load of supermarket cards...

As fate would have it, I actually tried one of the cards tonight! Thai Chicken Noodles -- it was ok actually! We would probably have this again as an easy midweek tea.

I can post the recipe if anyone is interested.
