Hi Fairy 3 glad to hear the crumble was a success. I'd also like to try making a dhal....I'll add that to my list! I'll also consider the butter idea as I may still have cream left after the ice cream!
I'm going to try a recipe in the Paul Hollywood How to Bake book for chapattis to supplement the korma meal I have made and frozen any which is on the meal plan for next Friday. That will stop us being tempted with a takeaway. Other than that my meal plan is regular meals as we ease ourselves back to work and school next week. My son loves chapattis so I hope he likes these as much.
I managed to batch cook spag bol and chilli tonight but can't claim any new recipes for those. The chilli is an old favourite from the Good Food website where I have quite a few recipes saved.
I've also scanned recipes in the past and saved them to folders in a bid to reduce paper work and have loads of those too!
Enjoy your Saturday x0 -
I actually made this on the 31st so won't be counting it as my recipe for the week. However I thought people might like it as it is a very simple recipe. I highly recommend halving the quantities (I didn't and got about 30 biscuits, roughly 3 - 4cm in diameter).

Enjoy.
Mumm, they sound good, will have to save that one too :rotfl:0 -
Hi kdf
I think my favourite chef has to be Nigel Slater I have several of his books, I used to be a big fan of Jamie Oliver, but I have not enjoyed his last few books I think the last good one he did was ministry of food. I think I must have all of Nigella's books. A lot of my books are themed by countries I have lots of Chinese cookery books, Indian , Italian & so forth I love reading cookery books to get ideas. Just lately my cooking has gone to pot as only cooking for me & oh & he is very fussy.
Tonight we have prawns so will be using my old favourite Ken hom the first book he brought out years ago from the bbc & the first cook book I ever brought

I'm in!
I do the cooking in our house (just partner and me) because I find it a nice relaxing way to chill after work...
We have four cookbooks, I will list them later, and aim to do one recipe a week. I am trying to cut our grocery shopping down so won't be copying each recipe exactly as that can get expensive (you can't buy half a teaspoon of cumin!) So I will be missing things out or adapting...
Will be looking at recipes with eggs as we have chickens and hope to be growing loads of veg and herbs etc, as we are moving to a house with a veg plot in a few weeks and I like to use the cheaper cuts of meat
Would it be an idea to, where possible, give a guesstimation as to the cost of each dish?
All rather exciting!:cool::cool: lurker:cool::cool:0 -
I made my first new recipe yesterday. Helped *cough* by my daughters - we went for Crust less Almond and Plum Tar from 'Top with Cinnamon' by Izy Hosack - a Christmas present.
I had all the ingredients except plums which I picked up reduced to 79p in the Co-Op.
The tart tasted great - a lovely almondy gooey mouthful.
However it contained no flour but oats that had been run through the food processor instead. Because of this is stuck terribly to the greaseproof paper (should I have greased my greaseproof?) so I ended up serving it in odd chunks rather than slices. Not the best start LOL but onwards and upwards.
Here's the recipe http://www.dailymail.co.uk/home/you/article-2743904/Izy-makes-Crustless-plum-almond-tart.html0 -
I'd like to join in this challenge too please! Have lots of recipe books but seem to cook the same things over and over.
Next week I plan to cook pulled pork and sweet potato hash. Have slow cooked pork in the freezer and had no plans to use it so this has given me inspiration. Only thing I need to buy is eggs to serve with it.
Shall let you know how I get on![STRIKE]CC1: £354.35 / £354.35[/STRIKE]

sparkychris - you make a good point about cost and I have discarded recipes that call for a 5kg duck!! I have a lot of cookery books based on veggie cookery, indian, chinese and pasta/pizza along with classics of Delia, Be ro,WI and old English recipes. Also have a rather tatty copy of Jocasta Innes - paupers cookbook, which am going to revisit.
Love those cookies stewby have saved in cyberfile.

To spread the cost a bit, I buy one ingredient a week eg a jar of paprika one week, sesame seeds the next so I have built up a bit of a 'larder' but there is always at least two things I haven't got so I often have to leave something out!
Will be doing a shop in a bit and my first recipe tonight... Will report back later, team!:cool: lurker:cool::cool:0
