Hi all
So last year I started a diary thinking I'd had my lightbulb moment, hah how wrong could I be. I think I'd bought the bulb but it wasn't truly wired in yet lol. So I was trying and once more failing to fix things (attempt 6/7 I forget now tried so many times) when life turned upside down. Cliff notes version oh had a breakdown and 4 months off work. Major upheaval, stress, worry and no pay for him made everything far worse. So I finally think the real lightbulb moment hit and I contacted Stepchange. Now I know this thread is generally all people who do dmp of some sort but our solution given the hugeness of debt is gonna be an iva which they are currently sorting out this probably means I should be in a different place on the forums but all your diaries help and support me so much through my lurkings and learnings I hope I can be here and go through my journey of learning living within a budget and without any credit backup here with you guys. New year, new diary, new lifestyle and new thought process for money is the plan and hopefully join you all on your journeys with less lurking more posting on my side

So day 2 of the shiny new year. I should be sorting tidying and de littering but I'm here instead lol. I have done laundry and im going to take the tree down once I've posted. Trying to post daily to keep on track. It's oddly harder when I'm off work I think because oh has no clue I anonymously waffle on here. Think he might freak to think of our lives on the web lol. I'm trying my hand at being more organised and using my Filofax so I keep getting distracted looking for free printables to enhance my planning hopefully it'll help me somewhat. Oh works his last shift for a week today, I'm already on day 2 of 8 off. We have great plans of stuff to do mostly stuff we planned to do last holiday lol. Well it'll all get done eventually right??? Tonight's tea is mince defrosting to make either a mince "dinner" or a chilli if I have kidney beans. Undecided so far. My freezer is looking very chickeny at the mo. I always end up eating the mince, pork and sausages first. Should learn to better stick to the meal planning. That's 1 of many resolutions for this year. Anyway the tree won't "down" itself and the floors won't sweep themselves. Maybe I can convince the cupboards to tidy and ood themselves though lol right off to do some work Living half in debt, half in denial

Well yesterday was our wedding anniversary so I didn't have chance to post. Not for any frivolous plans occurring just for spending the day together really. We didn't buy anything but did treat to a cheap takeaway which I'll be honest after all the normal home cooking murdered both of us with indigestion, still not feeling right this morning myself we spent most of yesterday's daylight hours at the allotment which was nice but cold- paraffin heater bargain search needs to begin lol. Today he's helping work for a few hours this morn as they r stuck so I'm gonna have an early start on some laundry and cleaning. And drink vast amounts of water to wash away the takeaway lol hope u all have a great dayLiving half in debt, half in denial

Last bits for Stepchange iva hopefully sorted today. They sent a letter asking for pension contribution %'s and more info on our hp for the car. I've emailed it to them hopefully they respond tmw morning to say they can move it across to the next stage. If not reply I'll b chasing them lol
The lovely creditors are enjoying ringing daily but hey that's what mute and ansaphone is for. Thinking I might log into all the accounts Nd delete the phone numbers tomoro when I do my token payments lol
Had a peaceful day today sorting stuff at the allotment with oh planning what to plant veg wise. We r new to this allotment lark so I'm thinking potatoes onions parsnips peapods and maybe cauli and broccoli. Any ideas are gratefully received. Love fresh veg but the prices force us to frozen to avoid food and money waste
Anyway a nice hot bath after being outside for far longer than expected to warm my cockles back up I think then fajitas with some ys'd mushrooms and cheesy flat bread. Hopefully enough leftover chicken either for soup/sarnies tmw or sweet and sour chicken for tea. Fingers crossedLiving half in debt, half in denial

heartattack spending £16.10 on prescriptions today but no other spends thankfully. tea is using up stuff from the freezer, i'm determined to use up before I buy to spend as little as poss in jan being inspired by greyings thread and advising on using up or end up throwing out as ood. hoping keeping a shopping list and meal planner in my Filofax will help as I can add bits I need and cross off as I get them. so hopefully sticking to the list will work
spent another few peaceful hours at the allotment sorting out the cabin. spiders and dust ahoy lol will be lovely when its all sorted out and organised and we start potting out and planting tho
tomoro will bring big spends as the dog and cat have their boosters and the other dog gets knocked out for a decent pedicure since his nails are stupid thick and he refuses to let us cut them. could do without it but its budgeted so long as they don't decide to have anything else wrong with them all when they are seen... fingers crossed. I shall report back tomoro after I stump up for the bill. hoping for less than £90Living half in debt, half in denial

Eek missed 2 days. Silly busy sorting allotment and getting ready for today's joy of first day back at work. Survived, just even with the area walking in behind me /sob lol and even managed tesco on way home to grab ys'd crumpets 7p, warburton sandwich thins 16p and a half warburtons loaf 11p. My freezer bread stock looks fab and crumpets for tmws brekkie at work
making the most of the ys'd stuff as the vet came in at £116 nearly fainted, seems new year new consult fee and the dogs put weight on (not bad for him he was slender) but now costs more to knock out
never mind needs must and ys cabinet raiding shall save us!!!
Right bloody pooped after the return to the pit of hell today so beddybyes for me nn allLiving half in debt, half in denial

Thanks nanny much appreciated
just checked in ally accounts and much as they don't like it the firsts month £1 token payments while setting up the IVA have appeared on all the accounts. They've all had phone conversations and emails explaining it and should all b getting their paperwork from Stepchange if they haven't already. Dunno how long it takes to get stuff seen within each company tbh. Still all feels a bit yuck not paying correctly and the phones still ringing off the hook daily but as I've said before they know what's going on and ringing me ain't gonna change it lol it's trying valiantly to snow up here hopefully it'll fail but we shall see. Bloody freezing in work with the doors opening and closing all day. nevermind soon b closing time

Well done so far!
With regards to the allotment - potatoes, onions, green/runner beans and peas are really easy.
Carrots and parsnips, go careful when thinning/harvesting to avoid touching the foilage, the carrot root fly will smell it and ruin a whole crop, but they are easy to grow.
Salad leaves /lettuce are easy also.
I'd steer away from cauli/cabbage unless you are going to invest in some kind of netting, slug pellets and check daily to remove cabbage white butterly eggs, the caterpillars love these! Broccoli does suffer from the same but are slightly harder to it IMO, you still need to check daily.
I love our plot, every year I learn more!

Hi IWAB
Thanks for the advice on the veggiesI'll be super happy just to get some potatoes and onions if they r easy. Hadn't even thought about the pests on the veg, d'oh!! Well I'll listen and learn hopefully for some success in there
Today was rather hectic at work so disnt nip out at lunch and spend, totally forgot tbh however that's kinda !!!!!!rd hubby's bait for tmw lol I was actually meant to go out and spend!! Well I'll clakm the nsd even tho not doing the challenge and defrost him some bread for corned beef sarnies lol
So since I've bloopered on the food front I'll actually gain not spending for 2 more days as he's on Short shifts (6 hrs-no breaks) and I have soup in the cupboard for me. It cud have been a genius plan if I hadn't admitted the blooper lol
Freezer is looking low and I pass a cheap bulk buy butcher on tues as I'm out and about with work may have to take advantage and buy as u pass not waste fuel in another trip there in 8/10 days I think so tues might end up with a spend but it saves in the long run. Best have a list and not b tempted tho. They have nice goodies like stuffed burgers aswell nom nom
Ok off to soak away the stressy day ttfnLiving half in debt, half in denial

Well my iva has now hit drafting stage yay!!!! Getting there slowly lol. Had a stressy Tuesday doing a presentation to finish off a course for work. Ironically a course to do the job I already do but as I hadn't done it originally I had to do it now. Nvm keeps the demon lords above me happy lol
I've had 2 lovely days off, cleaned the house loads and spent a lovely day today at the allotment with the hubby sorting his pigeons. Feeling all happy and content and switched off from work but that will all change when the alarm clock goes off tmw lol I really must find my work mojo again. Anybody got a gps tracker for it lol
Anyway. Only spent £26 getting meat for next 2/3 weeks and it's all frozen ready so that's hepling my run the cupboards out idea for jan and for saving pennies lol. Not actually done a proper food shop at all this month we'll see how far I get!!
Now for my fave hot bubble bath and an early night for an early start I think
