OH dropped meat slicer into sink - how long to dry out?

Options
OH was dismantling meat slicer (Kenwood) into its component parts to wash when slippery hands caused him to inadvertently drop section containing the motor into the washing up bowl. (Its OK it was unplugged at the time.) Any suggestions on how long it should take to dry out before we can safely use it again?

I would personally leave it in a warm place for a good 3-4 days just to be safe. You could also stand it in a sealed bag of rice as that will belp to drawn out the moisture.

I would actually see about dismantling it as much as you can (removing panels, bits that join together, anything that's easy to photograph putting back together) and then letting them all dry out separately.

You need as much air circulating around the inside as you can, otherwise the water would evaporate from one place and condense right back on the panel wall.

I'm a bit over the top, I'd say leave it to dry for at least a week, maybe two weeks. The airing cupboard (if you have one) is the best place to leave it.
  • Have you got one of those little portable dehumidifier things? About 6 x 4 x 2 inch. You plug them in until crystals dry out, then unplug and they absorb moisture, changing colour again when full. Stick one of those in a sealed bag with your slicer for a few days.

I really think an appliance that's suspected of having water inside it needs disassembly. It's impossible to give any specific time to wait which will ensure it's safe to plug in again, as we don't know how much got inside, or how quickly it will leave.
