Hi folks,

I posted earlier about hooking up a security camera that has a fixed scart to my new tv through the component input and need the right female scart to phone adapter. The one scart on my ordered tv will be used by my sky box no hdmi on it.

its seems a little trickier than I though to get the right female scart to composite adapter. The security camera is at front door and the scart is fixed to the lead from it.

I need something along these lines,

I want to plug the existing scart from my camera into the adapter then use the component av2 on my Panasonic tv

http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/7471553.htm

But need to make sure than the signal will be carried to the phono leads that will go into this tv, but the descriptions are not too clear to me if this is possible

Thanks you for any advice regarding the right female scart adapter to buy. I don't want to go down the route of a analogue to hdmi converter as I understand they have a noisy fan and worried a little about fire risk as well.

Thanks
John

Open up the SCART plug and inspect the cable conductors and which pin(s) they're connected to. You may be able to cut the SCART off, and solder a single phono onto the lead, with no need for this adaptor. Does the sec camera have any sound, or is it video only?

Here's the standard pin assignments for SCART

  • According to the Argos website the TV has
1 SCART socket, 1 USB port and 2 HDMI sockets.
    PC input socket.
    Component video socket.
    Composite.

Your CCTV camera will (almost certainly) be a composite video output. You can't connect that to a component (Red-Green-Blue or RBG on three separate phono sockets) input without a converter

If your TV does have a Composite input (single phono socket, probably yellow) then you can use that for your camera. This adapter which you mention should work

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Scart-to-Scart-RCA-Phono-S-Video-Adaptor-Composite-TV-/250696089957

then use a phono-phono plug lead to connect the yellow socket on the adapter to the yellow composite input on the TV.

That is a very interesting suggestion. There is sound as well.
Actually outside the lead did break one time, if I remember two wires inside. I just put insulating tape around each wire then more insulating tape around both to make them weather proof and everything worked ok.

As regards your very good suggestion, If I cut scart off then, then cut off the ends of phono rca cable, attach the sound wire to the phono sound, and the video to the yellow phono, just wonder if it will work ok then.

As I haven't got a soldering kit I would probably just wrap the wires together and cover with insulating tape.

mmmm not sure now about cutting of scart (just had a look) as the power lead to provide low wattage power leads from the scart as well.

    Ah well......thanks anyhow for suggestion.

Here's hoping that it will as I just ordered it.

As I have to put the scart into the female scart side of this plug, I do have a sneaking suspicion though that the female part of this plug is only to tap into the output signal of the other connections on the adapter and wont be able to route an input signal itself.

Won't break the bank so can only try it
    Thanks

Where's it going to get the power from? If you plug it into a SCART adaptor or a TV, there's nothing that will send power to your camera. Is there a matching unit that you have which sends power to the camera? If so, you'll have to get power from that.

I think it will work. The scart male and female ends will be connected straight-through, and the slide switch will connect the phono sockets to be either input or output. You'll need a 2nd phono lead to Red or White to carry the sound from the camera.

Well maybe hope so as it says on description on ebay

"This version also has a pass-through scart socket (female). This allows you to tap into the signal as it passes through from one device to another"

Ah well if not will just get another sky box that has hdmi and RF 2 for magic eye and does need a aerial in socket as well.

thanks for all replies and Happy New year to all.

Still don't see where you're getting a power supply from. And I thought you wanted to feed this into the Composite Video Phono?

Well I am using existing scart of camera with power cable attached to the actual scart itself, it then plugs into the above female scart coupler, which then plugs into the scart to composite adapter, which then goes to tv through phono cable.

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Scart-to-Scart-RCA-Phono-S-Video-Adaptor-Composite-TV-/250696089957

There is a female scart side on that adapter above but ebay seller has confirmed it only is a feed into the signal passing though adapter. that is why I have to have a scart-scart coupler to join them together.

A confusing way and roundabout way to do it, but if it works It should be ok.

Thanks a lot for advice and help.
