Cars that will go UP in value for a reasonable price

Hi all, I have about 2-4 grand to spend on a car. I currently have a 2001 Mini Cooper which is giving me some problems therefore I need a new car just for work purposes and leisure. I would like to buy a car that can go up in value, there are a few out there, and I want some suggestions.

My current dream car would be a 2009 Audi S3. Despite the minimal depcreciation, I would prefer to have a car that could actually increase in value over the next 2 years but won't break the bank for me to purchase.

Any suggestions? thanks.

I sold mine 4 years ago just as petrol prices went mad, kept dropping and dropping the price by hundreds.
Looking at similar cars, mine would be worth 2-3k more now.

buy a £500 banger, if it's still running in 2yrs and has an mot you may get £600 for.

a classic, might go up in value. Will cost a fortune to maintain, keeping original parts not cheapo aftermarket parts.

otherwise I'm afraid it's just wishful thinking.especially if your looking at the newer markets where cars depreciate faster. May find one that doesn't lose its value as quickly as others though

    +1

I've ran quite a few cars at this price point that ive sold on for more money.

Personally, i'd buy a £500 Ford Puma for a bit of fun and the likelihood it will go up in value (assuming you can keep the rot out of or repair the rear arches)

Point proven, gone up a couple grand since last week when I looked.

Sorry, missed the 2-4k bit! :)
  • A decent non-molested MK2 Golf GTi is still a perfectly usable daily and if kept nice will go up in value, same for Corrado. Parts are cheap, plenty of advice on forums, fun drive, but they will feel a bit old after the mini.

VW Corrado or VW Golf MK2. Porsche 944. BMW 3 series from early 1990s

Really depends how practical you need the car to be but I'd expect any of those to be worth more in a few years time if you buy right.

    Snap!

Corrado will probably feel more modern than Golf MK2 but both are definitely good options for non depreciation.

Another option is something with mega miles, if you buy cheap enough it's likely to be near the bottom of depreciation curve and more miles won't alter the price much.

Is the 2009 Audi S3 a bad choice? will it go down considerably after 2-4years or will it hold its value pretty well?
  • A case of knowing what the next 'scene' will be, cars in scene can command silly money, those almost identical without the magic letters or two extra doors worth pennies.
