Disappointing accommodation - Complain further?

Look at the price asked for a 2* in the same area and ask for the difference to what you paid.
Dirty carpets I would find unacceptable, along with missing smoke detectors (are you 100% about this as it would seem a little odd, especially for 4* accommodation?). Missing grout etc would be less of a problem to me as I tend not to go round checking for this type of thing anyway.0 -
I wouldn't normally notice grouting either but when it's on the floor in front of the loo it was something easily noticeable.
And yes the smoke detector was definitely missing, obviously had one there before but not been replaced.

i had a problem with Lakelovers last year too. booked a 4* also and it was mucky, holes in walls, things didn't work, manky furniture which was different to the pictures when we booked etc.
they were apologetic but that is as far as it went. they mentioned compensation but we never got it. the owner apparently rectified things after our complaint, which didn't help us ... but someone else has complained about the same property since then.
at the time i was not up to fighting them for what they had originally offered.
would never use them again.
was the house in Bowness?0 -

No it was in Ambleside. Spoke to the manager last week and received a cheque for £100 this morning. Happy with the final outcome as the owner accepted things weren't right.Cath x
