Ideal Logic Warranty

I purchased an ideal logic + boiler a year ago. The plus models come with an extended 5 year warranty and once the thing was installed I completed the paperwork and posted it off.

Today I’ve received a letter from Ideal asking me to complete an annual service, costing £80.

I must admit I'm a bit shocked because I bought the plus model (which cost more) because it had the extended warranty. Was I just niave? Or is this common for the warranty to be subject to a service plan like this?

Read the T&C of the warranty .
But its not unusual for an item to require a yearly service just like a car .

You may not have to get it serviced by them, you might be able to get an independent engineer to service it for cheaper, as long as they do it to the same standards. I don't know if they would cause a fuss about your warranty though.

The warranty terms and conditions are that the boiler should be properly maintained. This includes carrying out an annual service and the cost of that is your responsibility.

It is quite in order for any suitably qualified person to carry out the service, so you do not have to take up the offer from Ideal. Why not ask the installer who installed it to carry out the service. Provided he fills in the service document then your warranty remains valid. Your installer could/should have ticked a box when he registered the warrany asking Ideal not to contact you. Some forget to do this so please don't blame Ideal for doing what they have done.

It is not my place to dictate how much others charge, but my own charge is usefully lower than the Ideal quote. It is not a difficult boiler to service. On the contrary its very straightforward to clean the heat exchanger and siphon, check combustion levels are correct and pressure OK.

even bg gas service is £49
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

That's not a full service. They just do what they call a safety check and do not clean the heat exchanger, or even clean out the siphon in my experience. They do a combustion check and not a lot else and use it to suggest other work as often as not.
