Richtea applaws wet is complementary so unless you add taurine etc it should only make up around 10% of kitties diet.
  • Sorry, I said wet but the actual stuff is the pate. I should have been clearer so apologies

It won't let me post links as I'm new but the pate is described as a complete food. I also checked it with them when I was researching diets.

I did quite a bit of research and would have preferred to go even more natural but I needed some convenience

If you want to be really picky, it should be Whiskas as its a brand name. :D

big or small letter does not change the meaning as there is no difference between Whiskas and whiskas but there is a big difference between whiskas or Whiskas and whiskers :D

Always makes me laugh when people say they feed their cats whiskers or that they have their female cats spaded :D

By the way - pate or chunks , all is wet food anyway so no worries.

My boys will not touch any pate consistency food, only chunks type. But some time ago they would only eat pate type.

Cats are cats, the moment you think you know what they like and get in bulk - they go off that food :)
  • p.s i cannot find sugar listed as an ingredient on sheba fine flakes

Sheba Fine Flakes & Sheba Terrine Fusion are both grain free so among the better ones that can be bought at the supermarkets

Agree with the others that wet is best. Vets sadly receive a little training in feeding animals (a few hours over their entire training) so not always as informed as they maybe should be. As the manufacturers usually then supply the practice with dry food - that's what they recommend

Happy Kitty Company foods are good - and things like Lily's Kitchen etc work out cost effective compared to pouches (as you generally need to feed less).

Zoo+ do a loyalty scheme where you can get up to 5% off (a small purchase fee but it lasts 3 years - I've saved nearly £40 and only a year into it! (and I don't really buy that much of either the cats or dogs food there!)

Re litter - an alternative to Golden Grey that GR was talking about is Biokats

I used to use GG but found it went really dusty

Stick to the Micro versions only - there's a scented or unscented on, depending on preference http://www.zooplus.co.uk/esearch.htm#q=biokats%20micro
    Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)
    2016 Sell: £125/£250
    £1,000 Emergency Fund Challenge #78 £3.96 / £1,000
    Vet Fund: £410.93 / £1,000
Debt free & determined to stay that way!
  • I smoosh the pate up into smaller chunks as he won't eat it otherwise.

    thanks for clarifying that.
my cat is extremely fussy so i am just glad i found something she will eat .... for now :D
  • I found the Hi Life in B&M today, it seems the older one just likes the jelly off the foods rather than the food itself. They also only had fish and she definitely prefers chicken so i'm not sure about stocking up. Would a wet meal for breakfast and biscuits for the rest be ok?

The kitten cries for food constantly and has a full tummy. She's been wormed and we're back at the vets in a week, i wonder if i did it wrong - should i be able to ask the vet to put it on for me (i bought it there last time)? She's due her vaccines, can she be dewormed and vaxed the same day?

Poor baby and her pink eyes, i've put some biokat fine litter in my shopping basket on zooplus. I've added a mat, 2 scoops and nail clippers. Is there anything else you'd recommend to get me up for free shipping? How do you purchase the loyalty discount thing?

I'm still not sure which food to buy, i'm very hesitant buying in bulk - i don't want to be stuck with 21.5 tins of unusable cat food if they don't like it!

Thanks again, i have bored everyone in my life with cat talk since getting these girls so it's nice to be able to ask other cat owners questions :)

If a cat has a dry diet to avoid dehydration they need to drink around 500ml per day, personally apart from a small crunching toping or a couple as a treat I think anymore isn't okay was we would be subjecting our cats to dehydration. Cats have very delivated kidneys and urinary system, dry food is a very common cause of cystitis in cats and urinary blockage, both can be fatal. The hilife fish should just be an occasional treat due to the high tuna content.

Kittens should be given free reign to eat as much as they like in at least four meals a day, it isn't uncommon for a kitten to eat more than an adult cat.

Buy a trial pack of smilla, I think its only about £4, also with decent brands don't bother with kitten food, the adult ones still have enough fat and calcium.

What has the vet said about your cats eyes?
