Would a claim against a credit company have any effect on credit score?

I have a dispute going on with a retailer, for a problem on a vehicle I bought. This is a dispute under the sale of goods act.

The purchase was financed, and I have been advised to hold the credit provider jointly liable under section 75 of the consumer credit act 1974.

I'm happy enough to do that, but can anyone advise whether that's likely to end up hitting my credit record/score? I have a very clean record with a whopping score, and I don't really want to mess that up.

I actually paid the finance off not long after I bought it, so I'm not actually in an ongoing relationship with the credit company, but apparently that doesn't make any difference.
